NPoints Season 5 is almost already over!!! :(

That's right. The 5th season of the world famous NPoints competition is over.

"Why, Toaster, what is this competition you speak so highly of?" I hear some of you asking.
NPoints is a highscoring (and now also speedrunning) contest that was started on Nv2 by Nahoj nearly 2 years ago! After several action packed seasons, the contest is now under the management of the two time winner, shomman, and the one time runner-up, XandoToaster!

Yes, NPoints has traditionally been a v2 contest, but NO MORE! shom and I wanted to use this contest to bring our wonderful community together to do glorious battle for our amusement. So, in that vein, we are running this contest on Nv2 and NReality! Because of differences between the games, we will keep track of two separate score boards. Also, if you wish to compete in both versions, we're not stopping you. ;)

"That sounds like fun, but competing in a contest sounds like a big commitment! How hard is it to compete?"
Competing is incredibly easy! The rules are very simple. To enter into the contest, just play one of the maps, and get a top 10 score. We will upload 5 maps every week for 10 weeks. If you get a top 10 score on one or more of the levels, then you will be assigned a certain amount of points based on how well you did.

0th = 10 points
1st = 9 points
2nd = 8 points
...
8th = 2 points
9th = 1 point
No score = No points

For example, if, during one week, you get 6th on one map, 2nd on another, 8th on a third, and don't get a score on the other two, then you will get 4 + 8 + 2 = 14 points for that week. Whoever has the most cumulative points by the end of the season is the champion! There will be a score board that anyone can view at any time.

"Where are you getting all these maps from? Surely you're not making them yourselves! No single person could make 50 consistently good and unique maps for one contest!"
You're right! Nobody could make 50 consistently good and unique maps for one contest! That's why we got help. We have asked many of the community's best mappers, from both v2 and 1.4, to lend us a hand.

If you told us you would like to make a map for us and haven't yet: That's Okay! You still have time to come up with something!

If we never asked you for a map personally, but you'd like to contribute: Great! We could still use some maps! Just PM either shomman or myself to let us know you're interested. The contest starts December 7th, and we'd like to have all 50 maps prepared before then. Enough people have promised maps to us. If you aren't sure if you said you'd make one for us, just pm either me or shomman and we'll tell you. If you really wish you could have done something, this contest will happen again sometime in the future, so you will have a chance. :D

NOTE: You can also find the maps on NUMA by searching S5W# for whatever week # you're looking for.

This is pretty cool however NReality's NUMA integration is broken :S

We are aware of that. I suppose I should have said that we're also running the contest on v1.4, rather than NReality. We'll probably post the maps in this thread and have people post their demo data here too, or possibly take advantage of that new NUMA subreddit. :9
I assume that highscoring contests were done before NReality was a thing, so I'm sure we can make this work. :D

This week is themed "Top Nv2 Mappers". It features a selection of maps from some of the best mappers in v2, including Fujita Seiko, Yoke300, Blizz, Spackal, and my co-runner, XandoToaster. All of these mappers specially created maps for this week, and we're very grateful to them.

You have one week to complete the maps, and post your demos. Any demos posted after the deadline won't be accepted.

Now, about demo etiquette. You can submit demos on whichever site you like. While we would like for people to post their demos on here as they go, which is the way the competition normally runs on v2, we can't mandate this.
When you post demo data, we would appreciate if you are specific about which level the demo is for. Maybe something like "[S5W1L1] *demo_data*" would help us greatly.

A reminder of the points system:
You only get points if you place in the top 10, not the top 20. 0th is 10 points, 9th is 1 point.

Tallying will take place, Midnight, Sunday the 13th, PST. For conversion:
12:00AM PST
8:00AM GMT
7:00PM AEDT
9:00AM CET

So, both this topic and the thread on the subreddit have been creepily dead. That being said, I've at least taken a look at all the maps, and played through the first 4 tonight. Maybe this will give people a bit of a push to play through, now that you know just a completion may not guarantee the top spot. On the 3rd map, Blizz's one, I pretty much hated it so just went for a basic completion with a bit of extra gold; now that I've completed it, I feel no inclination to go through and improve my score. So it probably won't take much to take the top spot from me there.

Just something to think about, everybody. :)

Now, with NUMA up, we'll be running NPoints on there! Exciting times!

NPoints was traditionally a contest on v2, which doesn't have speedrunning. So when we decided to also run this on 1.4, we decided to keep it with just highscoring. However, that was when that we didn't have nreality integration. We really didn't want to have to keep track of two sets of demos, and score that many more things. But since it's so easy to keep track of highscoring and speedrunning, now that nreality is back up, we might reconsider. Shom is busy today, but I'll talk it over with him when I can and we'll see if we change our minds.

I've submitted some starting demos to 4 of the 5 maps, will play Yoke's later. I'm with golf here, Blizz's map is too convoluted for my taste, but I might try to improve.

After talking it over with shomman, and after getting some advice from golf, we have decided to tentatively add a speedrun version of the competition as well. This will have a new scoreboard, which will be linked on the main post. So, for the rest of week 1, you can submit speedruns as well, and after a couple weeks, we'll see if there's much interest in it. The main post has been updated to include this information.

For now I did Yoke's map, pretty happy about the route although my ending was a bit sloppy.

For now, I'm pretty happy about the fact that our routes are basically identical all the way up to the top right corner, even though you did some minor adjustments to speed things up (as expected lol). I figured there had to be a better route by the laser, and you found one. Now be honest, did you watch mine at all before you started for ideas, or did I actually stumble on the best route for the first half?

Well I don't know if it's the best route heh, but yeah I made it myself before checking your run out by using some test maps, so I guess you had a natural instinct for it :P

I realized after checking your run there's a faster way to get out of the laser chamber, but I'll leave this for now, too tired of the level. Although it's a pretty good level.

Thanks to those of you who played. Eddy had an almost complete domination, but golf took map 3, by Spackal, from him, taking him down to 49 points.
In speedrun we had the appearance of Mohit_Ghune, but Eddy dominated all the levels, taking home 50 points.

Unfortunately a little out of order.

Week 2 is finished!
We have a new Highscore leader. Eddy protested and didn't play swipes. He also didn't play lifdoffs, not sure why not. Golf is leading now, by 11 points.
We also saw 5 new competitors appear, SnakeEkans, who took the 0th on swipenets map, and jumped into 3rd, Jirka, Izzy and Jawz1102, as well as Aidiera who played his map.

In speedrun, Eddy dominated, again. He has two perfect scores in a row. SR this week saw 6 new competitors, however a few were just from the submitted HS runs. getpucht and SnakeekanS were the main new speedrun competitors, going into 3rd and equal 4th.

Oh I was gonna play lif's map, but I delayed it and then my computer broke :P I was originally going to play swip's map too even though it was too overloaded with enemies for my taste, but again I couldn't.

But hey I had 30/30 :P Anyways, regarding my computer, I'm going to try and fix it today or in a couple days, seems like both the power supply and the graphics card are faulty, it's almost not worth it to replace them but I don't feel like updating my whole computer yet, hopefully everything will be fixed soon so I can play this week's round.

I assume you mean a PC, not a laptop - replacing those things in a laptop would be a bugger :P. Have these two things been a while in the coming, or did they break almost simultaneously?
I hope it gets fixed too, for the same reason :P

Yeah definitely a regular PC. The graphics card had been working badly for a few weeks. As for the power supply, well it was 20 bucks so I just bought a new one to try :P They weren't the problem anyways haha, I think the processor is overheating.

Haha, that seems to be the way with computers - they work fine until everything starts failing all over the place.
