The Short Map Competition
by lord_day and Skyline
Well folks, this is a pretty self-explanatory deal. Maps that don't last long can be much more fulfilling than full-length maps if made well, and we'd like to set up a contest for all the attention-deficit mappers in our community. Please participate and join in on the excitement.
The competition will (most likely) consist of five rounds, each governed by restrictions put on the length of the map. Mappers will have to produce an all-gold demo of their submission that is under a certain amount of frames. There will be eliminations each round.
- First round: Under 700 frames
- Second round: Under 500 frames
- Third round: Under 400 frames
- Fourth round: Under 300 frames
- Fifth round: Under 200 frames
There will be three judges: lord_day, Skyline, and rocket_thumped. The rubric is as follows:
Gameplay: x/10
Aesthetics: x/5
Length: x/5
(The length category judges how well you use the length of your map. You should ask yourself questions like these: Does your map work well as a short map? Did you make the map shorter than it needed to be? Did you make the map seem unfinished by making it short?)
List of Competitors
- Riobe: 205
- spudzalot: 196
- Erik-Player: 171

I'm totally in. However, would you mind providing a few examples so that we (the contestants) can get an idea of what to make?

While unclear in Skyline's post, the Length score is how well you use the length of your map. You should ask yourself questions like these:
Does your map work well as a short map?
Did you make the map shorter than it needed to be?
Did you make the map seem unfinished by making it short?
So hopefully you get the idea.

Well, we've got a strong list of participants so far, but it would be excellent if we could get even more! Please tell your fellow community members about this contest to see if they're interested. The more competition we have, the more exciting the competition will be.

OKAY, sure.

edit:
I have a suggestion, I would make the numbers for the rubric bigger, making broader, more in detail results.

Meh, I'll join in for a laugh. Can we submit old maps or do they have to be new ones?

No new maps? So basically we look for old maps in our archives and agd them? Nice idea...
Here's my submission for the 700, then :P Ah, memories.
And an agd. It's slightly shorter than 700 frames but not significantly imo.
Thanks for clearing that up.

Bwahaha, now that's fixed, I'm in.
I've made a map already, can I submit it to NUMA now so I don't forget?

Yes. Old maps (for this round) count as those submitted before Skyline's first post.
