The Author Appreciation Contest

by Amadeus
In this contest, all contestants will have to make a map which imitates or follows guidelines set by a chosen authors style.
At the beginning of each weekly round, an author and theme will be selected. Then, all other contestants must make a map according to the author's style. The map will be judged by me on the following guidelines.
x/10: Asthetic
x/10: Theming
x/20: Gameplay
x/20: Style
Example:
All contestants make a map based on Formica's unique style and and with a theme of 'abstract flow'. Nevermore wins, with a score of
7/10
6/10
19/20
15/20
for a total score of 37/50
Next on the list is Lord Day so he is the style setter. I choose 'drones' as the theme and judge the next round of contestants.
Roles
Stylesetter: the weekly author chosen by the me.
Contestants: competitors in this event
Outside authors: authors who are not involved in the contest but are chosen as style setters by winning judges.

Im in, but wouldnt it be better if it was a month long contest and you were the judge with a couple of other people and you chose the author to appreciate? i recon it would be better than a week swapping contest that (unfortunatly) probably will never have any posts

The thing is that, this sounds awfully like the paradigm shift, except with the theme being: Map like Me
But I'm in.

Im in, but try to get some of the better more renowned map makers to be some of the stylesetters

I won't join. I don't really have a style, and neither does anyone on that list. A recognizable style takes very long to develop, and only a select number of people have one. How can you map to a style that doesn't exist?

Sounds like Paradigm Shift, only you have to do it in the judge's (or stand-in's) style, as well as to fit the theme. I might make a map; also, I don't think you should have a list of contestants; it could just continue in a similar manner as PS.

I don't get how the rules have changed.

I'd agree with blackson in that some of the participants (i.e. moi) probably don't have enough of a specific style to replicate. That, and I think the theme you add is unnecessarily constricting. But otherwise, I'm fine. :P

I'd like to ask all mappers to put the tag 'aac' so judging is easier for me

For this to work, you need to pick people with more well known styles. GTM? I don't really know the first thing about his maps. No offence, naturally. I just haven't run across them.

I did. Just try to pick someone where there's less ambiguity next time. Map coming tomorrow or Saturday.

I have it planned out to get harder and harder to imitate the styles, but they should be clear (example, Palemoon's style is distinct but difficult to imitate)

Daikenkai's World Tour:
Gameplay: 16/20
Tile Style: 8/10
Object Style: 6/10
Aesthetics: 7/10
Theming: 6/10
Total: 43/60
Comments: Drone pathing was not done overly well, but the tiles were nice. Mines perhaps did not completely fit his style, but overall, nice job.
Minion of Pi's Time Vortex to Right Now:
Gameplay: 16/20
Tile Style: 4/10
Object Style: 8/10
Aesthetics: 6/10
Theming: 8/10
Total: 42/70
Comments: Curved tiles weren't totally in theme, however mines were great. Drones had nice pathing put were not included in entire map.
Kablamo_Boom's The Smak!:
Gameplay: 16/20
Tilestyle: 4/10
Object Style: 5/10
Aesthetics: 7/10
Theming: 7/10
Total: 39/60
Comments: You were one of the few to use drones besides zap. Tiles were very nice, but not very in the GTM theme.
Flagmyidol's In Style!
Gameplay: 10/20
Tile Style: 6/10
Object Style: 6/10
Aesthetics: 5/10
Theming: 6/10
Total: 33/60
Comments: The bottom right corner tiles didn't feel like they belonged there. Also, the map was short and didn't feel like a ton of effort went into it.
Itaer's Irregular:
Gameplay: 14/20
Tile Style: 2/10
Object Style: 3/10
Aesthetics: 4/10
Theming: 7/10
Total: 30/60
Comments: Please try and more carefully adopt the theme next time.
