The Time is Right - Contest over - Etz is the champion!

"The time is right!" for a new highscoring contest where everybody has a chance at winning. This is a different kind of contest, where highscoring prowess is not necessary to be competitive. The premise is that you try to match a particular finishing time for a map, not simply achieve the highest score. Any number of people can join, and at any time, so feel free to jump in whenever you want.
Rules

1: The object of this competition is not to get the highest score, but to match a given time as closely as possible. For example, if I give a time of 205.000 for map 1, a finishing time of 204.500 is just as good as a time of 205.500, and way way better than the current 0th of 234.575.

2: Due to the nature of this contest, all runs will be submitted with a map tag in this thread. For those that aren't aware, whenever you complete a level in userlevels, including in Nreality's NUMA map mode, the complete demo data (with both map and demo data included) is in the demo box on the left side of your screen. Beware, however, that this will be erased forever if you watch any other replay, or complete the level again before copying that data. Therefore, be very careful to save the demos from any runs that you think will be competitive.

3: There will be a maximum of two submissions per contestant per round. I am doing this to allow those who get an early run in to improve based on later entries, but so that its not so many that the thread gets really cluttered and I can't keep track of it all. I would like to request that you include a message on any second submission stating either that it is your second submission, or that it is an improvement over the first submission.

4: Each round will be one week. I will specify which map will be competed on at the beginning of the week, and the round will end one week from the posting of the round, at a specified time. I will try to update the thread with new maps every week at the beginning of the week, but no guarantees, seeing as life tends to get in the way of such things.

5: I will disqualify any runs that end with the ninja standing next to the exit for extended periods of time due to having collected too much gold to match the target time.

Scoring

Scoring will be cumulative throughout the entire contest. The person with the closest time (not counting resubs) to the target will recieve 5 points, 2nd closest will get 4 points, 3rd will get 3, 2nd 4, and 5th 1. Anybody else will get no points. In case of a tie, everybody will get exactly the same amount of points. (This is changed at the end of Week 2, and applies retroactively to all previous weeks.) If you happen to get the time exactly, you will recieve 2 bonus points.

The maps for this contest will sometimes be by a well-known author, and sometimes not. Rest assured, though, that I will do my best to pick a map that is fun to play, well-known author or not. Also, they may be recent, or they may be old, nobody really knows. (And does the age of the map really matter anyways?)

I am looking for an imagemaker (or two, or more) to make sigbars for contestants, weekly winners, and overall winner.

Let the scoring begin!

This contest is now over, there simply hasn't been enough interest in it to justify my time to keep it running. Sorry to Etz and Avarin, who have been my most ardent supporters, and the only contestants a full third of the time. The big winner it Etz, who had the top spot every week, and only missed the target time once. Behind him is Avarin, followed by vankusss. My thanks to all of you who participated.

Alright, rethinking of strategy is in order.
Got it too.

I'm in, I'm in! Do we have to post our score here, or submitting to NReality would be enough?

Post it here, because if you run into the goal with let's say 86.000 the lower scores don't get saved....

why do you think so? nreality shows me 85, nv1_4 shows 85, too
and be aware of rule n.5, your run would be disqualified

I'm glad that this has gotten the amount of interest it has in the first day. Wasn't really sure how well this would catch on. I would still like to see more people try their hand though.

Now, onto business. I have reviewed vankusss's run, and it shows for me a time of 85.000, exactly. This is the official ruling.

EdoI, vankusss is also correct that your run would be disqualified under rule #5. However, since this is the first week of the competition, I am giving you the benefit of the doubt and giving it provisional status in the rankings. Basically, any run that does not include the waiting will be ranked higher than yours until you submit another run that does not include the wait before the exit. I hope I'm being fair in my decision.

NReality's broken for me at the moment, so I can't play the current one, but sign me up for later maps.

Two questions:

1) Is NReality necessary/will it usually be necessary?
2) Can we jump in and out of the contest from map to map?

No, you do not get bonus points for AGD. Going for those would most likely necessitate pointless running around the map in order to make the target time, and that's not what I want.
Turiski wrote:Two questions:

1) I suppose NReality isn't completely necessary, you can make demos in NED using the map data off of NUMA. This is basically an honor system anyways that nobody cheats (fbf's) in order to make sure they hit the target time, so I can't control how you make your demos.

2) Yes, you can jump in and out every map. I suppose you can say the scoring and rankings are analagous to the SOTW contest, where people can choose to make or not make a sig every week. However, you will obviously have a much better chance of placing well if you play every week.

heh, i don't know how you'd get 85 exactly on NReality, seems like a fluke more than anything; i got more than 85 on NReality, and therefore coudn't submit an exact 85 secod one - even if i got it.

ska, any run submitted to NReality I could care less for as far as this competition goes. You could have a run submitted that's 5000000 seconds off of the target time, but as long as you post the demo data for the run you want to submit to this competition, that's all I want. So even though you've gotten a run over 85 on NReality, you can still submit a 85.000 run here if you get it. Just make sure to grab the data from the box on the left side of the screen before you complete the level again or watch some other demo. :-)

TFK, is also added to the results listing.

It was a bit of luck that I got exactly 85 without going over, it took awhile, I was glad it worked out (=

Week one is now over, and week two is beginning. This week's map is Back to Basics by Mapfactory ( map ID 161384). The target time is 145.000.

Congratulations to vankusss for taking week 1.

Wait. Why do they get different scores with the same time? is it whoever gets it first?

Yes, its whoever gets it first gets the highest points, just like in normal highscores.

Depending on how this week goes, I may rethink this. It seems to be turning out to be much easier to exactly meet the target time than I thought it would be.
