The Contest

Welcome to a new mapmaking contest, by KinGAleX, your faithful contest-maker since, he thinks, 2005-ish.

The idea of this contest is to make a map that pays homage to, emulates, or even evokes the feeling of, any other video game you can possibly think of.

It will be judged by me, Kashkin, and maestro, at the end of the contest, not during.

So get mapping.

Boring Details:

• The contest runs for the 336 hours after this post. (Two weeks exactly.)
• Maps must be of the original N 1.4 map data (no N-Reality), uploaded either to NUMA, and linked with your post, or in a .txt appended to said post. Post must include name of game referenced.
• Up to two maps will be accepted per author, but the average of the two maps will be used as your author score, for final judgement. You can't take both first and second place.
• Maps will be judged out of 150 points. 50 for creativity (how out there you've gone with your game chosen), 50 for our NUMA rating (what we would rate the map if it were on NUMA), and 50 for truth to reference (how well you have evoked the ideas presented in your chosen game).
• Prizes are non-existent to not decided on yet.
• Maps must be made or submitted after the start date of the contest.

I think it would be kinda unfair :/

Sure you can make N-Arts. Won't rank high on Creativity, NUMA Score, or Truth to Reference. You're referencing a game, not a still image.

Anyone else planning to submit a map, it'd be nice to get a post from you too. I'm hoping to get at least fifteen entries.

I'm planning on submitting at least one map, but if I have enough time i'll make two.

Here's my effort. The citadel from Half Life 2, or episode 1 seeing as it's already on fire. I was at a bit of a loss as to how to translate the gameplay, but I just tried to give it the element of dashing between cover...

Very fun contest, it really makes you think about the gameplay mechanics of N and what makes something fun, as well as trying to nail the aesthetic.

Thanks for really taking the time to think about your submission, wolfgang. It's nice to see that there are still people here who enjoy a challenge and give it their all. Much appreciated.

Read the rules more closely. Yes, you can make just the one map.

I am currently making a map for the game Dragon Warrior, sometimes known as Dragon Quest.

edit - Here it is:


In this game you have to get the Rain Staff and the Sun Stone.

Then when you have these, it's time to take on the DracoLord, the evil wizard.

There is even a sidequest and secret experince points.
