:: BLUR: SEASON TWO :: ROUND FIVE HAS BEGUN : 169080
Welcome to Season 2. I have gotten explicit permission from Hendor to hold this contest, so let's have a blast!
When you look at a map, do you see places where a corner jump might save valuable seconds? Do you see enemies that you might just be able to squeeze past? Do you see doors that do not need to be opened? If you do, that's good. However, perhaps the best question is: Do you have the skills to play the way you see?
----------
I'll hold the dramatics here on in. As you may have guessed, this is a highscoring tournament. If you are interested, read on.
:: The teams
The first stage of this competition will be played in groups of 4; therefore, our total number of players must be a multiple of 4. Once we have enough people to play, I will put all the names into a hat and draw out the teams. Any players who get left out for one reason or another can be put onto a waiting list to jump in for someone if they have to drop out. I will not be playing.
:: The format
Competing within your randomly selected group, you will play three maps. Everyone in every group plays the same map at the same time. Each group does not have their own map. Based on your performance, you will be given points. The fastest player in each group will get most points, while the slowest person will get least. After playing through the three maps, the two players in each group with the most points will advance to the next stage. If two players are tied, each player's total time (in seconds) for all three maps is summed. The highest time wins the tiebreak. In addition to these 6 players advancing through the groups, 2 more people will advance via wild-cards. The remaining players who have the highest total time get these wild-cards. I'll get more into the format of the next stage when it gets closer to that time. For now, just know that submitting fast demos and getting lots of points is good.
:: The Scoring
1st in group - 4 points
2nd in group - 3 points
3rd in group - 2 points
4th in group - 1 point
To get points, you must submit a demo. If you do not submit a demo, you lose a point.
:: Bonus Points
Too boring so far? Yep, I thought so.
Making the Cut - Whenever I assign a map, I will also assign a certain time that I feel would be quite challenging for most players to reach. Every player who breaks this time gets +1 point.
The Golden Player - The single player who submits the fastest time out of everyone will get + 1 point. This player will likely accumulate 6 points on the round (4 + 1 + 1).
:: Rules
-You will always have a minimum of one week to complete your demo. This should be way more than enough.
-Complete your demo in Unreality's program, which you can find here. See below for instructions.
-The maps will be chosen from NUMA. Please do not post the demo you are submitting on the map's page before the contest is over.
-Do not PM me your demo.
-Discuss the map and your experiences here as much as you want. You may post your time (or a fake time) if you wish.
:: About NReality
I will resubmit all maps used in this competition to NUMA in order to enable a "protectedcontest" feature that lets only the everyone see the submitted demos score, but not the actual demo. So, you may submit as many demos as you want, whenever you want.
1 - Download the program using the above link and unzip the contents to a folder somewhere on your computer.
2 - Open the program from this folder. If you move the program out of the folder, you will lose some features.
3 - Click "userlevels" from the main menu.
4 - Enter the map number as given in the NUMA web address.
5 - Press "Load Map" and the program will automatically download the map from NUMA. Neat, eh.
6 - Click on the downloaded map just as in the old userlevels to play it.
7 - Any personal best will be recorded to the right of the map title.
8 - To submit your demo, ctrl-click it. (command-click it for Macs.)
9 - You will see everyone's score times, however you will not be able to view actual demos. You can still click their scores but their demo will appear as a 0 frame demo. You will be able to view your own demos however, even after submitting.
