MAPDRAFT (x_x)

So guess what, people. Go on. Guess. You'll never guess it. Okay you guessed it.

MAPDRAFT IS UP AND RUNNING!

PALEMOON was very gracious and helpful when I told him I was thinking about "theoretically" starting up mapdraft, giving me all the old files and all that. We tossed around ideas, both new ones and from past mapdraft incarnations, and now here we are!

One big change from the past is that now there are multiple judges. The judges as of now are ChrisE and flag. The winner of a particular round will have his/her map featured on NUMA. You can thank flag for that piece of awesomeness.

Here are some excerpts from a past thread for those of you who are new or have forgotten:

---

these are spoilers they don't show up in retrowhatever
What Do I Do?

The point of this contest is really very simple. There will be a pool of 'Packs', that will contain instructions on how you create your maps for this contest.

Each round, each player will receive Four (4) different RANDOMLY SELECTED Packs to make their map with. You MUST make your map with EXACTLY what the packs dictate, or else i will hand you your ass be very upset, and judge you down for it.

Packs can contain anything and everything, like Objects, Tiles, and even special rules that you must follow when you are making your maps.

Here are several examples of Packs, just so you know what to expect (although you probably are expecting these. Or are you? the mysteries continue):

------------------------------

Good Health
Tiles
15 ‘Five’ Tiles
5 ‘Four’ Tiles
Up to 20 ‘E’ Tiles

------------------------------

Cache-22
Items
22 Gold
22 Mines
22 Bounce Blocks
------------------------------

Netamet Pack 1
Booster
15 gold
1 floorguard
1 blue drone (Seeker)
1 blue drone (Normal)
1 Locked Door
1 Trap Door
1 Mine

8 'One' Tiles
20 'E' Tiles

------------------------------

Birds of Two Different Warring Tribes Who Hate Each Other...
Rule
You MUST place your gold in clumps of 4 or LESS.

------------------------------

Of course, some packs have even wackier object sets and more bizarre rules, so you must be ready for anything well i mean you can relax because no elephants are going to trample your dog but still you might want to be prepared!

There are more details about the different pack types and a comprehensive list of packs further down this wonderful curvaceous post dat ass.

How Do I Start?

Well, it's simple! Post in this thread saying you'd like to participate, and when we get enough Players we can get started!

and here's the part where we get serious:
Last time was incredibly loose as far as deadlines and restrictions go but this time i am really becoming an anal-retentive asshole more concerned about the organization of something like this so we're going to do it this way:

-Registrations will be restricted to BEFORE the round begins. Drop-Ins are not allowed. They were cool and all but i was forgetting who signed up when and i left some people out in the cold. and i don't want that to happen again because that's just absolutely fucking awful

this is important: due to the rather large (80-something) amount of people we got playing last time
I'm going to separate you all into pods of 6-10 people again for organization.

Each POD (not the band) Will:

- have 6-10 people
- be judged seperately
- there will be awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, as well as 2 bonus runner-up awards in each pod. This means 5 out of 10 will be winning something.

I will PM each of you with your four Packs that you must create your map with. After that, you will have until the deadline to create your map!
and remember,
If ANYTHING doesn't make sense to you, ask me some questions. I will answer them and then add the fruits of our discourse to the FAQ.

The Illustrious Rules

THESE RULES MAN, THESE RULES

I. The Exit, Exit Switch, and Ninja will not be in any packs. Please place them yourself.

II. If you miss a deadline, you won't be eliminated or anything, but you cannot participate in the judging, and so you'd lose your chance at some cool prizes. Don't do that.

III. The point of the contest is to see what you can do with bizarre amounts of objects and tiles. Try to use all of them! Hiding objects you don't like outside the map or in tiles will make me INSANELY ANGRY

IV. Follow The Rules

V. Don't talk about THE GAME

VI. No NReality.

Hello.
Make a playing contest within this. That would be better.
Bye.

What would a pack be like?
Limited to 6 jumps? Can only jump if you are at a lower tile than your last one? No corner jumps? Must hold right for 5.283 seconds in a run?

If everyone will be on their own, I'M IN!
If there will be teams which will collaborate (i don't have enough time for a responsibility like this), I'M OuT.

If that's the case, you're more than welcome to run such a contest yourself using the mapdraft maps (in another thread, of course). :3

No no no, I'm not ever running anything again, I don't really have a good experience :P
Just that if you do a playing part, you'll interest both parts of the community. Me and RD came with a pretty cool ideas for the playing part, I hope he will discuss it with you.

Sure. I'll talk with him about it.

EDIT: I talked to him about it. He's agreed to be in charge of it and run it. So, any highscoring contest questions should be directed to RandomDigits.

EDIT2: Never mind; he doesn't want to run it. I'd love to have a highscoring competition, but I can't find anyone to run it D:
