Death of a highscorer, forumer and friend.

As far as sources go, they don't come much more reliable than TS (formerly known as Toshosoft), and I'm afraid to report that according to TS, we have lost a much beloved community member who a lot of the newer people might not know, but recognise by some of the runs he left behind, including his famous 11-4 highscore run and the various 0ths and many top-20s he had procured during his short time actively highscoring N. (As of writing this, he still has 78 top-20s to his name, including 2 0ths on 80-3 and 89-0). I also ranked him 17th on my personal list of the most influential N players of all time. I am, of course, talking about spect, one of the brilliant German highscorers from back in the day. I realise that this may hit close to home for a few of us, especially with xaelar. While my encounters with spect were limited, he was respected amongst the highscore community and his presence is still felt years after leaving Metanet. The circumstances around his death are unofficial, but TS reports that he was hit by a train due to an apparent suicide, and his family have of course been notified. Spect had allegedly been depressed for many weeks prior, and when his meds were ineffective, he began contemplating suicide. I am also well aware of the similarity to the atramentis scandal, so I was hesitant at first to accept this, but after hearing Toshosoft's case, I am willing to believe him. I must stress, however, that this is only confirmed by TS and currently unofficial Now official: http://www.physik.tu-dortmund.de/
I thought it was important to share it with an aspect of the community that spect was attached to. My sincerest condolences to TS and spect's family.

Rest Forever in Peace.

[16:51:56] <Zapmeister999> ts how did you hear about spect?
[16:52:18] <TS> Friend of his told us.
[16:52:30] <TS> The friend who was depressedpersonsitting him.
[16:52:43] <TS> Or was supposed to.
[16:53:02] <TS> Went missing last night, he said. Called the police, they looked for him, found him dead, hit by a train.
[16:53:40] <TS> I'd understand if you don't believe me, you are speaking to the master of mafia games, but it really is moot.
[16:54:10] <TS> I don't particularly care if people believe me or not, I'm just here to tell you guys so I feel like I've done something about it.
[16:55:09] <TS> He went missing last night.
[16:55:13] <TS> Probably after 9.
[16:55:19] <TS> His last.fm is still scrobbling :/
[16:55:21] <TS> Kinda fucked up.
[16:55:27] <TS> His phone is also on, hence why he's online on G+
[16:56:26] <TS> Family has been notified, we've spoken to his sister, it's real.

I'd always thought that Metanet's small size was able to beat statistics like these.

And I think it's saying something that I, and many others, am actually somewhat... Touched. I've never talked to him more than once or twice myself, and I barely play N, and yet there's still something... There.

Clearing things up...

Right.
He sent a mail to his sister around noon on the 15th. He told her he would be fine :P
He went out in 6 PM the same day, told his roommate he's going out.
At 7:10 PM he was hit by a train. His jacket, wallet and glasses were found put aside.

If you still don't believe me, I can link you to an article at his University website?

I can also give you an address if you want to send flowers to his family and the like.

Like I said, fairly moot.

It's now official. It's sad to hear, especially when he was so young and talented. He was my age. (21).

LookAtThis once quoted that Spect admitted that he is naem : http://metanet.2.forumer.com/index.php? ... 2379&st=15
QUOTE
(spect)
Mmm. To be honest.. I did cheat.
And it was easy to portray all of you into me not being a cheater...
Yes, I do confess. I did cheat. Many of my highscores have been done using Cheat Engine. I found it ages before you guys saw that thread about it.
Infact, naem was me! kryX was right when guessing that. But yeah, who would believe that? It was really easy convincing you guys that it wasn't me and stuff. Highscoring against myself was the easiest to make me look unsuspicious.
Of course, my arguments of "there's no proof" blahblah all support my unsuspiciousness, too.
You don't believe all of that? How about that run on 89-0, then? Didn't it look suspicious to anyone?! Hell, I did the biggest crapload of cheating there, using an innovation someone else used earlier with some chimney jumping, and I'm still too stupid to pull off perfect jumping...
iirc no one is able to contact naem, and, only spect talked a lot about naem. Should we add this to n.wikia of the possibility that naem could be spect?

Woah, spect is naem, I guess, we will never know definitively weather he really was naem, but i believe it, Yes, this should be added to the wikia, hmm, i never knew him, but, he seemed like a great guy from what i've heard willard

I guess he's being sarcastic and naem's not a cheater, but it still doesn't take anything away from joe1284's amazing run.
Dunno, but seems to me that spect was being sarcastic cause he was fed up of all the cheater accussations to him, either that, or that's not a real quote from spect, i mean, dont you think its TOO shameless/crook/naughty/swine/whateveryoucallthis to post that, he's calling gullibles to all of us.

I personally think that "naem" has positive effects on the community, and if spect is really naem, it's more a +value on him

Man, I'm really sad to hear this. I remember having a lot of fun competing with him for highscores... he'll be missed.

Yes.. spect said that, I remember when he did, he was very obviously being sarcastic. The whole "competing against himself" and "i'm still too stupid to pull off perfect jumping" is proof of that. The reason he became inactive in the first place was because of cheaters like kryX and naem

I'm sad to read this... This isn't really what I was expecting to read while coming randomly here.

And yeah, I also think spect was sarcastic about being naem.

It is so sad to hear that he died so young. This is not fair and whenever something like this happens I cannot believe it. My prayers are with his family and friends and I would love to send flowers anonymously with serenata. Oh my god this is so sad.
