Nv2.0 Completion Race

With M&R's announcement that Nv2.0 is being released on December 31st it seems likely that some you will be up for a race to the finish. If I can find out what time it is planned to be released I will let you know. I'm not suggesting a competition per se, I just want to know who else is up for it and this seems the most sensible place to reach those interested. Thoughts?

Why not just agree to start playing it at the same time, surely it isn't that hard to stop yourself playing for an extra couple of hours. Ill take part in this if I'm home.

I mean, if you guys were going to start playing at the same time, it would be cool to have it be like at midnight GMT Jan 2 or something.

Well the thing is, it's not about how little time it takes you to complete it so much as who manages to finish first, regardless of start time. So there isn't much point in holding off, especially since no time will suit everyone.

i won't finish first for sure because it'll probably already have been out for a few hours when i get my hands on it and also because i'm only fairly good at n compared to a lot of you, but i'll be trying for top 15

I'm not sure if I can play that much but sure.

I think the main hold back for me, other than going out on NYE, will be accidentally playing for fast runs and committing suicide when I make a slight mistake cos that's how I play currently.

Where is an official announcement/thread? I can't find one anywhere ;_;

From Mare's twitter:
"Thumbnails of finished levels, all lined up -- ah, I love the way N levels look."
- Mare
From that selection of 25 maps there are at least 9 levels / tilesets that I recognise from v1.4. Interesting.

Wait wait; why did they even have to generate thumbnails in the first place? And there are 500+ items in there so I'm guessing 100 eps :D

Wow a bunch of levels are familiar arent they, from the Holiday Contesque, and from original 1.4 levels (modified). Still very excited for this to come out :D
Actually on that thumbnail there are 10 of them from Metanet levels (21-3, 21-4, 22-2, 22-4, 23-0, 23-1, 23-4, 24-3, 25-1, 25-4), 11 if we count 26-4, which I'd say is 48-1.

I counted 10 as well (excluding 26-4)

Known bugs/problems (which we’re working on) include:
- login/signup is broken;
mainmenu relays aren’t working;
episode/level numbers are wrong;
game uses arcade-mode timer/gold rules (whoops.. bit of miscommunication);
jittery performance (especially on some win7 computers);
sounds cutting out;
glitch when wallsliding at the top of the screen(?!);
buttons/UI isn’t completely finished/polished.

Congrats ska! Yes I'd think you're the first.
I personally gave up after the first column. This type of competition just isn't for me. I don't have enough willpower.
Still haven't even completed v1.4 :P
About the physics engine:
- It's not too different from v1.4, which is good
It's a bit easier to perpendicular jump
You can still survive falls by hitting corners of tiles
Don't need to press directions to jump on one-ways (thanks, ska)
You can still cj
Triples seem to be harder, but that could be the lag
BBs are nice; but not the same
Negatives
- No corner shoves
Lags quite horribly on Windows 7
No "boost" from jumping on thwumps (thanks, ska)
NO USERLEVELS REPLAY BOX!?!?!?
Still no way to get death demos
No way to even watch demos (This would probably be included in the last version; with debug mode)
(Basically, the physics engine was the one from holiday contesque)
Also; ska and I both noticed that there was something different with gausses. I thought they fired more often than from 1.4
Andddd, there is a 2 player mode that you can change to in the "Levels" tab by pressing up. It seems to be limited to multiplayer on the same computer for now.
Looking at the "Levels" tab it looks as if M&R are looking for someway to incorporate userlevels (nmaps) more into the game.

I'm going to repeat a couple of things raif said, so sorry in advance
Aside from the bugs that were made public in the release, here are my own thoughts.
pros:
improved bounceblocks (I think consistency is more important than the buggy old ones, and double jumps are still possible
wall jumping on one ways. :D
one way glitch removed
great levels
gauss turrets seems more consistent, although I found it a little harder which is good imo.
No "bad" maps.
NO FUCKING STUTTERING!
cons:
you don't die on mines embedded at the bottom of two 1 tiles (45 degree angle) (forget the level, sorry)
no thwump boosts while it moves up OR sideways which may be more correct in pure physics terms, but then again, most people I know can't jump up five times their own height ;).
die from enemies after completion (I like that you can land on one ways now though after completion.)
sound from gold lags a little.
gold is not always collected on overlap, especially when clumped or moving fast.
Not really any 'puzzle maps' or much enemy variety.
I think there was only one trap door in the whole game that I could recall... Not necessarily a bad thing though.. just.. odd.
One of the levels which was completely symmetrical except for one tile which kind of irked the OCD side of me.. think it was around the mid 40s.
Lot of recycled 1.4 maps, don't mind seeing them again, especially when modified such as the beautifully reworked 99-4
Thanks for the great game Mare and Raigan. Looking forward to the proper release and happy 2013!!

That's me just starting now, finished the first 2 ep's. My god the lag is horrific.
