a number pad how do you use the object editor? I have a laptop, and can us the Fn button with the period button to get the tile editor, but try as I may I can not get objects.

You press num lock F6, then you press M for the object editor. For tile editor you press num lock F6, then press period (.)
To get back to the edit menu you press fn left arrow key.
