I'm not the type of person that has many songs on their iPod (in fact, I only have 100) so my list is pretty small. This is because most of the songs on my iPod are good enough for me to listen to routinely.
My short list:
System of a Down (by far my favorite band :D)
Rush (if that counts as metal and not just classic rock)
Lamb of God
Iron Maiden
I also plan on getting the Black Album by Metallica pretty soon. I also want to get an album by As I Lay Dying (preferably the most diverse musically that they have). Any suggestions?

They are my favourite band so I love all their albums. Personally, I would choose Shadows are Security as that was just an amazing album. An Ocean Between Us is still amazing but just not as good.
Also, I don't like to advertise but it would mean a lot to me if people joined my forums for Metalheads.

My favorite song from them is probably The Sound of Truth or The Darkest Nights.

As I Lay Dying is pretty tight. If you like them, youll probably like Escape the Fate, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, older All That Remains, Cradle of Filth.
Protest the Hero is probably my favorite band in that genre... heard of them anyone?

Yeah, woe of tyrants are really good.
They are not that well known yet which is a bad thing.
Favourite song would have to be Kingom of Might (DITD).
Amazing guitar work.

Maybe but there's always weirder out there. ^^
I've been listening to a lot of deathcore lately.
Bands such as Carnifex, Suicide Silence, Sons of Azrael, Salt the Wound, Woe of Tyrants, Black Dahlia Murder, As Blood Runs Black, Arsonists Get All The Girls.
Intense guitar work in all of them.

My favourite metal genre would be Metalcore as all of my top 5 bands are in that genre.
As I Lay Dying, August Burns Red, The Devil Wears Prada, All That Remains, Bullet for my Valentine.

bah, anything with -core in it is not metal. i like black metal and a bit of death metal. brutal death metal too. bands like nyktalgia, sterbend, burzum, mortician, cannibal corpse, blut aus nord, nocturnal depression, and one of forgotten tomb's songs (springtime depression).
and then power metal. dragonforce, kamelot, power quest, thy majestie, dark moor. all very good bands.

That's not true. Well, certainly not for me.
Deathcore and Metalcore are my favourite genres and I'd say they were definitely metal.
Listen to 'Arsonists Get All The Girls' and tell me they are not metal.
