As the title of the thread suggests, I'm starting to get into some psychedelic/ambient/noise/downtempo stuff recently. Thus, I'm looking for suggestions as to good bands to check out.

I've already heard Animal Collective, Deerhunter, and MGMT. Are there any other very awesome bands I should be listening to? I'm up for anything ranging from instrumental electronica (sort of Holy Fuck-ish) to fuzzy noise rock (in the My Bloody Valentine style).

Thanksh.

Check out The Jesus and Mary Chain`s Psychocandy for a MBV type experience. Check out The Dirty Projectors for a more Animal Collective esque experience, with more of a traditional instrumentation, mind you.

I don`t know if you`ve heard Neutral Milk Hotel; very standard kind of folk-y stuff, although brilliant in its own right, with psychedelic lyrics. Their album In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is among the best ever.

Would I make a mistake in suggesting The Mars Volta?

If you enjoy MGMT, Empire of the Sun is an excellent choice.

Holy. Balls.

I have been looking so long for some psybient, but had no idea what it was called, thus the closest I got was...well, Ray Lynch. :S
I do love Lynch, though.

Thank you.

I totally just read that as, "I'd hate to be the only black guy stuck using v1.4."

The quality of more recent Goldfrapp is questionable but you'd like Felt Mountain.

Further noise recommendations:
Kevin Drumm - Sheer Hellish Miasma
Hijokaidan - Noise From Trading Card
Masonna - Ejaculation Generator

Also, if you are in any way shape or form interested in noise rock, Mainliner - Mellow Out is utterly essential.

You'd love Goldfrapp. All three of those are favourites of mine.

Yay I'll be checking out Goldfrapp as soon as I get a chance. I think I may be in a situation similar to squibbles'.
