A 10, really? I thought it was one of his worst.

Despite my musical opinion meaning virtually nothing, I second this.=w= wrote:Oh, no way. It's definitely his best.toasters wrote:A 10, really? I thought it was one of his worst.
http://greenbrown.bandcamp.comPeople write to me and say, "I’m giving up, you’re not talking to me." I just write them a simple message like, "Never give up," you know? And it changes their life

I think it was a really, really great R&B album.
The only problem is I hate R&B. It just... it's everything about music I don't like, packed into one little convenient genre.

Whatever genre label Kanye is currently wearing, I guess I had always just seen him as R&B for whatever reason. I suppose it's technically rap.=w= wrote:scythe wrote:I think it was a really, really great R&B album.

R&B???!?
Though I'm listening to "Runaway" right now and it's catchy as fuck all. Definitely snatching the album.
I don't know how to say it exactly. The thing that pops into my head is "it sounds like shit when you're high", which actually kind of gets at the point, but it's also a stupid complaint, because I listen to the same music sober as high, and I spend the vast majority of my life sober. I can't lose myself in R&B; it doesn't have the flow that I associate with the music I like, in some way. What don't you like about R&B?
Though I like Bob Dylan, who by any measure is all of that and then some. So I don't think that's quite it.
I spent like half an hour trying to come up with a decent response and I'm just not sure. :/

I really am surprised that Pitchfork gave Kanye a 10. Especially since they seem to specialize in lo-fi-type stuff.

Actually, Pitchfork seems to have a tendency of giving good ratings to mediocre hip-hop.ℛeginald ℙoon wrote:This quote is fantastic.=w= wrote:I WOULD MAKE AN IMMA LET YOU FINISH JOKE BUT KANYE WEST MADE ONE OF THE GREATEST ALBUMS OF ALL TIME

Pitchfork has always had a certain affection for Kanye West.
I have to say its a damn fine mainstream Hip Hop album though. I'm a little bummed Good Friday didn't make it on the album though, Pusha T's verse is gooder than hell. Did anyone watch the short film that accompanies the album?

I think the GOOD Fridays will show up on the upcoming Jay/Ye Split EP.rocket_thumped wrote:Pitchfork has always had a certain affection for Kanye West.

A few showed up on Dark Fantasy. I assumed the split would all be collaborated songs.=w= wrote:I think the GOOD Fridays will show up on the upcoming Jay/Ye Split EP.rocket_thumped wrote:Pitchfork has always had a certain affection for Kanye West.

I've only heard a few tracks, but it seems very very good, and I reckon it'll be a strong album when I hear it in full. I haven't yet watched the short film, I really want to though, waiting for my internet to come back. Dark Fantasy is a fucking great song though. All of the Lights is good, but I was a disappointed, especially considering the line up of contributers for it.
Shit, I looked at the wiki for it, and for the list of people credited for musical assistance it has some chris dude or someone credited for handclapping, and that's it. I mean seriously. (I assume) he got paid to clap.
