Two days ago I was using my now disabled laptop and it was working fine when I turned it off. I din't use it for the next two days and then when I turned it on it was all like "viruses! ah!" and now it says there's no viruses but if I try to use any program on it it asks me what program I would like to use to run it. Internet Explorer is the only option (it asks me this even for IE, and then asks ne if I would like to download IE when I say yes). I'm hoping someone here - probably Vyach - will know what to do.

You still have malicious software running on that computer. You need to get rid of it. If you can't do a proper and full virus scan or if that doesn't fix the problem, you may need to format and reinstall the operating system.

Tanner might be being a bit presumptuous, but then I'm assuming there was some kind of removing viruses step between "viruses ah" and "no viruses". Your description of the problem is really vague and would be greatly improved by precise details, the exact text of messages, screenshots, etc.

You can always resort to the recovery mode, which worked on a similar situation to me.

More specific time: I came home and opened it up and tried to use IE for a science project, which then closed and Vista Security came up saying it was scanning or something. Then said there were all the viruses and showed folder name and virus typer beside them in a list. So I left it and figured my science project was more important and that I could deal with this later. When I came back the Vista Security was gone and I couldn't use any of the programs. The last thing I did before the virus warning was uninstall the GECK (Garden of Eden Creation Kit). I don't know if this means anything but the same thing happened at school on the school computer in computer studies except it was Windows XP security.

Okay, first of all, what is that "Vista Security" thing? Google and common sense tells me it's malware.

Can you install another Antivirus? Like Microsoft Security Essentials?

If you can't, quoted from Microsoft's website:

If your computer has preinstalled recovery options:

Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then restart your computer.

Click the Start button Picture of Start button, click the arrow next to the Lock button Picture of Lock button, and then click Restart.

Do one of the following:

If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you will need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer.

If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system you want to repair, and then press and hold F8.

On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight Repair your computer, and then press ENTER. (If Repair your computer is not listed as an option, then your computer does not include the System Recovery Options menu as a preinstalled recovery option.)

Select a keyboard layout, and then click Next.

Select a user name and enter the password, and then click OK.

On the System Recovery Options menu, click a tool to open it.

Then select System Restore. As I said before, this worked on a very similar situation on a friends' computer. If this doesn't work though, tell me and we'll find another way.

From Donfuy's post, if you don't have that menu option when you press F8, go into safe mode and roll back to a previous state by using system recovery in safe mode. That is, go into safe mode, log in, right click on computer -> properties, system protection and click on system restore. It should help you a ton.

You got scarewared. The page that opens up was pretty common about a half year ago, but it's less common now.

I'd follow Donfuy's advice. You're probably going to want some better anti-virus software, there are a lot of free ones out there. I'd check http://pcworld.com or some other site first to make sure it's a good one before you download it, but run Windows Defender (which comes pre-installed) first, then install another anti-virus.
