Blu-Ray vs HD DVD.

I didn't see any ads for Blu-ray until long after HD-DVD was retired. I suspect that Blu-ray may have won because a player was built into the PS3 where the HD-DVD player was an optional add on for the 360.

Blu-ray is good because it has more storage space, but that made it more expensive than HD-DVD. Blu-ray also has better copy protection (that's a cross in the "con" column). I wouldn't even consider buying any HD-DVD stuff, it's finished.

It's basically Sony versus Panasonic, and Panasonic lost by a mile.

Blu-Ray just loads longer because it uploads the whole movie into the player's drive before the movie starts, which is good, so things won't skip and less problems, making your movie experiences much more enjoyable.

And blue-ray does have slower seek/read times then HD-DVD, Bethesda put the entirety of Oblivion on the PS3 disc twice over (3 times total) to reduce load times.

Ok, after a little more researching, it would appear I was full of shit and blue-ray is faster then HD-DVD, but I still know that Bethesda did that to reduce load times... (no I have no idea what the before/after was like)

Blu-Ray is expensive currently, but werent the dvd's also expensive when they first came out?

Blu-Ray is the most up-to-date form of watching movies, If you have an HDTV Go Blu-Ray, It will be better then Dvd's.

I've always preferred HD-DVD because it was developed by and industry alliance, not a single company. But alas, Blu-Ray is the winner...

Also, 51GB (bigger than Blu-Ray by 1GB) HD-DVDs are possible, they just never really made any because no one wanted that much storage space.

Both formats had large industry groups behind them—the Blu-ray group included by Sony, Matsushita, Pioneer, Philips, Thomson, LG Electronics, Hitachi, Sharp, and Samsung. You could say that Sony was the main force behind it (true) but I would say the same about Toshiba and HD-DVD.

Although I'm hoping that is sarcasm, the next form of optical storage won't use a laser that is in the spectrum of visible light, it would be beyond ultraviolet to see any gains over blue-ray

In any event, it'd be nice if cheap HD-DVD players circled around the market eventually. I have the whole first season of Trek on HD because it comes with the standard DVD version, and it has these cool bonuses that I'm itchin' to try on out.

HD-TV's can play video in High Definition, which, with the right blu-ray player, will make your copy of Fantasia look better than ever before.

Blu-ray and HD-DVD will both play High Definition content on any 'HD ready' tv. The only difference being that you will need a blu-ray player or ps3 to play blu-ray or a HD-DVD player to play HD-DVD's.

In my opinion. Blu-ray has clearly won. It's just not even close anymore. HD-DVD has got too much to make up on, and they are too late.
