I have a tech question:

My friend's computer shows a Windows Notifications warning saying the copy of Windows is not genuine (counterfeit). However, the Windows XP he bought was an original copy, yet the computer assumes it's not. How can I remove the Windows Notifications warning?

Okay,if you're not covering piracy... I've read that the file should be in C:\WINDOWS\system32\KB905474 and that you should remove files that are there.
I haven't tried that since I've never had any problems like that, so if it doesn't work, YouTube has bunch of videos that are showing different ways to remove this.

Hypothetically, in this situation where the OS is clearly wrongfully accusing your friend, an innocent victim, I would search Google and/or Youtube for ways to disable WGA.

If he has the original serial code and disk and everything so as to prove that it is, in fact, a legitimate copy of Windows, he should give them a telephone call and work that shizzle out.

If you change too much hardware in your computer, Windows will do this because it thinks its' running on a different machine, when really it's the same machine with different parts (but Computer's can think. They don't know that!). Just call up Microsoft and explain your situation and they will be totally useless helpfull.

Thanks for all the help, but anyway, we fixed it in our own ways by going to Start -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restored and the warning now had disappeared.

Please lock this topic.

My friend gets that notification as well, but his Windows actually is counterfeit like everything else he owns.
