Well? Does anyone have it? How do you like it? I like the new features and the annoying UAC is toned down. Don't have it yet, but I want it.

It looks to me like windows is copying mac again. That whole bottom bar with the programs on it is hardly a new idea now is it?

I love it. The taskbar works (jumplists=awesome), Aero Peek and Aero Snap are awesome features and it's a lot way faster than Vista. Also, it's beautiful.
Explorer has been revised from Vista to 7. I used Vista some days ago and I was like "O_O, what the heck".

Yeah, I'm a 7 lover.

wedgie, I agree with you to a certain degree, cause I believe this is better than the regular OS dock. Not entirely different. Just works better (like I said, jumplists and aero peek).

I've just upgraded, and aside from driver issues, I'm pleasantly surprised. Application Data integration wasn't difficult, a lot of nice little UI touches including expanded file copying information and improved customisation are great, and performance is comparable to XP. Not saying it's blown me away with anything spectacular yet, but who knows what'll happen?

It's good so far. My only complaint is that my wireless adapter is incompatible with Windows 7, so I can't use the Internet without crashing. There were also some graphical glitches, but an updated driver from Intel fixed that, so yeah. None of these are really Microsoft's fault- the OS itself is really quite nice. The new taskbar is beautiful, and being able to randomize desktop backgrounds is cute. I don't like the "Library" concept, though. I prefer navigating folders hierarchically, rather than clumping groups of folders together in one view.

I must agree with you there, Fraxtil. The new folder architechture is messed up and took me a little to even work out. But for me, it's not actually a big deal, since I keep everything in My Documents anyway. I moved my pictures to the Pictures library, but am not going to bother with my music, since I've got playlists set up for foobar which relate to the file path, and it'd be silly to make new playlists just to move my music when it's not doing anything wrong where it is.

I've been using the retail version for a few weeks now (I got it early via MSDN). It has pretty much been a nonstop perfect user experience. The only issues I've had were bugs related to the SigmaTel drivers for my high-def audio chipset. Everything else has worked brilliantly.

when i have a perfectly fine connection and have talked to the IT department at my school and they say its also fine for me to run 7. so not sure whats the problem.

I'm quite happy with 7. When I first installed it, I disabled Windows Updates and I thought I just installed the worst version of Windows yet. Drivers not being anywhere, nothing being compatible... For once, WU isn't something to disable... Turned it on, and everything worked perfectly. Library system is kinda meh, but I link all my main folders in Favorites anyways. Aero theme is always wonderful, and applied to the taskbar is cool, now. dwm.exe can take up some % at times, but whenever you're fullscreening games, it usually disables itself. I think my favorite thing about it is its ability to switch audio devices without having to restart the applications playing sound. Before (on XP) I would be Skyping and gaming, would be done with Skyping and unplug the headset, and lose all audio from the game :( But alas, no more! I was psyched when I was able to plug a usb headset in and out with the sound changing device each time. I like 7's taskbar a lot more than Apple's dock thing. 7's just looks neater, cleaner, and less Playskool-y.

Anything else...

Oh right, something Apple will never do right is the alt-tab, and 7's alt-tab looks cooler, now. Aero's winkey-tab is okay, but I never use it.

Never get right? The only difference is that OS X's cmd-tab switches between applications, not windows (which I like better). Then you have cmd-` for switching between windows in the app itself (soooo wish Windows had this).

Finally got my $30 upgrade disc today (student discount, and I guess it was actually $43 to get the physical disc, thing took over a week to ship). I'll probably install it over the RC during thanksgiving break.

7. My roommate just did the same upgrade a couple days ago, and didn't run into any problems (he actually did the hack that lets you 'upgrade' the win7 RC I think).

Oh, gods, yes. In my experience, WinXP has always had a problem with multiple sound devices. I have external speakers and a USB headset. If at any point I accidentally pull out the headset, all sound drops, and sometimes plugging the headset back in and apologizing repeatedly will help things after restarting everything that uses sound. God help you if you boot the computer without the USB headset in.

Haha, well, if you can't have function, you should at least have consistency!
And wait, you only have to close the tab? I have to restart the entire browser in the same circumstance you described. Rather, I have to close the browser, change the default device, and then start a new browser session altogether again. Then again, I use Firefox. Do you use Chrome or something? If so, it might be because of the whole new-thread-per-tab thing that Chrome does.

Right, that's the good thing about it. I'm on Opera, which doesn't have any tab-isolating features. It's just Vista's doing, I believe.

You guys really have that much trouble with different audio devices? On XP, win7 beta, and win7 RC on my machine I plug in headphones, sound goes to the headphones, I unplug them, sound goes back to the speakers, I plug in the mic, I get use of the mic (without fucking up output).
