Google Wave is an interesting Google side project. Which is currently in invite only mode. But before long the entire internet will be invited, because when you get invited, you get to give out
more invites.
So if you're interested, ask for an invite, I have only just got in so I will let you know when I recieve my first batch of invites.

Y'know, it seems like a really awesome, feature-rich product, but I can't for the life of me think of anything meaningful to do with it.

Yeah, for general communication it seems pretty unnecessary. But for collaborative document editing or organizing an event or project it looks amazingly useful. I'd have to try it.
I don't know how many invites each user gets, but if anyone has any they don't know what to do with, I'd love one.

Agreed. I read somewhere a couple of days ago that there are several DnD and various other table-top RPG groups using Wave experimentally... need to find that topic first.

I logged in, added KA and some other dude to a wave, typed a message, and haven't been back since. It's almost *too* inclusive, because I can't do a fucking thing with it.

I've got one. You can either get an invite straight from Google, or from a friend. The former is much more likely. Ask Google for an invite here:

Amazing concept, poor execution. It combines forum or facebook-esque posting with instant messaging, allowing for a multitude of methods of communications, such as topic setting, inquiries, conversations, and event planning. However, since it's only at the preview stage, the live typing is rough, it freezes my Firefox (though it works better on Chrome, I hear) and glitches occasionally.

I'm not sure how awesome the concept is, even. Is there a demand for this sort of thing? I think people will be happy to stay with Facebook unless the features are a bit more pronounced.

Lot's of people are calling this the best collaboration platform yet. I think those people are looking at what Google Wave
could do - things like uploading documents and working on that or maybe not be so slow. However, Wave has yet to do something that a platform like, say, Google Docs, or hell, even e-mail could do. It's just that it's in real-time, but doesn't feel so because it's so laggy.
Then again, it's still in beta, so we still got to see what Google has in store for us.

But certainly not -the majority- of people are calling it that. I'm hearing a lot of tech types talking about the slight benefits of Google Wave, but unless there is a major incentive to change, it's a failure. It's a social networking program, and whether it does that the best is entirely dependent on the number of people who are part of it.
