Firefox and DEP

Windows' Data Execution Prevention is preventing me from starting up Firefox 7. I've run a virus scan and removed any threats, uninstalled and reinstalled, removed my cookies and bookmarks (goddammit) completely, and have tried to add it to the exception list for DEP (which seems to be impossible, I get told I need DEP to run Firefox and that it can't be turned off). For the time being, I've downgraded to Firefox 3.6. Anyone have any idea what the hell is going on here and how to fix it? Yahoozy's gettin' mad.

EDIT: Also, I downloaded Chrome and it wouldn't even boot up.

Sounds like something's acting up. Have you run any spyware/anti-virus scanners?

Yeah. One of the first potential solutions I found was to remove a certain trojan, but everything checked out.

I'm running FF7.01 with DEP on default (essential only) (Windows 7 x64). Maybe ... try upgrading from V3.6 back up? Some settings may have gotten screwed up last time you upgraded/installed firefox so maybe inspect registries?

This absolutely worked, thank you. I'm guessing the culprit actually was some malware I had picked up that messed up the settings for the latest versions. Too bad all of my bookmarks are gone, though. :(

EDIT: Nevermind. It worked once, but Firefox now crashes on startup, without the DEP error. Guess I'll just use 3.6 for the time being.

Does the same thing happen with Firefox 4, 5, 6?
What program(s) did you use to scan?

Malwarebytes and HouseCall. Haven't tried other versions of Firefox besides 3.6, but most everyone I've found that has had this issue said they needed to revert back to 3.6 in order to have a working Firefox.

Unless your copy of Windows is not entirely legit or you've shelled out $60 for some high-powered but likely shitty piece of anti-virus software, there's not reason not to have Microsoft Security Essentials installed.
