Hi, I am considering purchasing an 16Gb Apple Ipod Nano (4th generation).
http://www.apple.com/au/ipodnano/

Just wondering if anyone here has one, and what you think of it.
I am trying to decide between a Nano, the 120gb ipod classic, or an iTouch.

I used to have an 8gb iRiver x20, which I was quite happy with, and i'm new to the wonderful world of DRM and iTunes and Apple battery replacement and such. :P

I'd go with the touch. My friend has the 4th gen nano and to me it seems the same as the 3rd gen with just a few flashy gimmicks. The touch, however, is something completely different, and special. As far as the 120 GB goes, why the heck would you need 120 GB? 8 GB is good enough for me :)

Well it depends solely on what functions you need, and how much space you need.
Here's what I personally think of each one.

iPod Nano:
Cool looks, new accelerometer used for new functions, good for not filling up your pockets. 8.5/10

iPod Touch:
A HUGE range of functions, nearly unlimited. Great use of it's accelerometer for many games, videos. App Store. New iPod Touches have the speakers, which is totally amazing. 9/10

iPod Classic:
Good for having tons of music, that's about it. For a person like me, that'd be really helpful, as I wouldn't have to decide which songs to delete due to lack of space etc etc. 8/10

Again, choose it on your own needs, not what your friends think.

I have an 8gig 2nd gen nano. It's great. I need more space now though. One of the main reasons I got the nano was because it was a good compact size.
I'd probably go for one of the classics now because I need the space (~60gb collection). The touches are pretty cool, but they are bigger than the classics, but lack the size I need.
It all depends on what you need out of it.

In comparison to the Classic, I really don't feel the Nano and Touch's storage is worth the money you pay for them. I've got an iPod Classic, gen before the current, and an iPhone. One is for music, one is for pretty much everything else. I much prefer it that way. Also, the size of Nanos is disconcertingly small for me. I'm generally pretty good at not losing things, but I know people who drop their shit a lot, and the Nano certainly isn't for them.

Compared to the prices around here, an 8 gb iPod Touch is $217 while an 8 gb iPhone is $200. If you're looking for a phone too, which is the better offer?

Depends on if you want to pay AT&T ridiculous amounts for a data plan or not ;)

Thanks for replies guys :D

I have about a 25gb music collection but the 8gb is enough for my portable music needs, so I reckon i'll get the nano now as the cheaper option, then maybe in a few years buy the latest touch when the technology should be even awesomer.

but i'm still thinking it through, and all this is really helpful <3

The new Nano doesn't charge on any firewire-based docking station (aka. 99.9% of docking stations). It is a problem that'll be overcome with the release of new docking stations (or that one rare yet expensive one that randomly works), but currently, that's a big drawback in my eyes (my mum's after one, and I'm trying to help her decide which iPod is best for her, too! :D).

I think the classic uses an actual hard drive for storage, which can lead to problems. Between the nano and the touch, it's a matter of preference. Personally when I went to get a new ipod I thought I'd just get a nano because I felt that all I'd do is listen to music. But my parents said if I was going to get a new ipod I might as well go the whole hog and get a touch, and I have to say that it was a very good decision. All the little games, apps and wi-fi are very nice to have. I went with the 16 gb touch, which although pricey is perfect for my needs. And if you only need 8 gb I would definitely spring for the touch.

I'm not sure why you're looking specifically for an Apple product - if you're not yet locked in to iTunes and FairPlay DRM and non-user-replaceable batteries, why get locked in to them now?

some good non-Apple products:
SanDisk Sansa - the 2nd most popular PMP after the iPod. they have several different models available.
iRiver - I myself own an aging iRiver H10 20GB. It's old, but it still works great (especially running RockBox Linux). Their current offerings range from the powerhouse P20 to the compact LPlayer and E100. They offer an aesthetic that's not unlike Apple's, without locking you in to the iTunes universe.
Zune - Sure, it's fun to make fun of Microsoft's attempt at taking down Apple, but the Zune is really a great product that's available in a large HDD model or a small flash model.

EDIT: After trying to look up the price, I've discovered that the iriver P20 is virtually impossible to buy anymore. That's rather sad, because the P20 had everything and the kitchen sink, which made it worth it's large size to utilitarians like me. it's been replaced by the Spinn, which has all the same features, but has 4GB of flash instead of a 160GB HDD. It's also much smaller, smaller than an iPod touch, in fact. the Spinn interface makes it very usable despite it's size, though.
-- I might be stupid, but that's a risk we're going to have to take. --

I have a Touch and wouldn't turn back from it's brilliant, endless feature list. If you have a 25Gb collection, the 32Gb would fit it, but apparently you don't mind having an 8Gb Touch, so go with that, it's what I have (1st gen) but it's still great!

My friend has a collection of over a thousand CD albums, amassed over a period of 15 years or so (since he was ten). I'm sure he could make a dent in those gigs if he wanted to.

I think the main use for those extra gigs would be: data transfer, movies, third party apps, etc...

I got an iPod Nano 4th gen. with 16 GB. It works fine, and is nice. I could have gotten a touch, but decided against it for three reason

1) it seem gimmicky

2) it wouldn't fit in my pocket as easily as the Nano (and I keep a lot of stuff in my pocket)

-and-

3) I didn't want it mistaken as an iPhone, which, at my school, would be taken away near instantly by the office (and I hate hassles)

BELLA parks her car and enters the school.
EDWARD: "Hello, Bella. I am very awkward, and I am a vampire."
Freeze frame: the text "protagonist, and also a vampire" appears, and an arrow pointing from the text to EDWARD blinks a few times.
BELLA: "I am infatuated with you." (she turns to the camera) "I am unaware that Edward is a vampire."
EDWARD: "I am infatuated with you, too, and I am a vampire."
BELLA: "Let's be awkward together." (she turns to the camera) "I am still unaware that Edward is a vampire."
EDWARD: "I completely agree, and I am very clearly a vampire."
(EDWARD does vampirey things.)
BELLA: "Thank you for saving my life."
EDWARD: "No problem, and I am a vampire."
BELLA: (to the camera) "I am beginning to suspect that Edward is not human."
EDWARD: "I am a vampire."
BELLA: "Are you a superhero?"
EDWARD: "No, I am a vampire."
BELLA: "What are you then?"
EDWARD: "I am not the good guy; I am the bad guy." (he turns to the camera) "That was a lie. I am very much the good guy." (he turns back to Bella) "Specifically, I am a vampire."
BELLA: (to the camera) "I am beginning to suspect that Edward is a vampire."

JACOB: "Hello, Bella, and I am very clearly a werewolf. Look at my wacky canines."
BELLA: "What do you have against Edward, anyway?"
JACOB: "I am a werewolf."
BELLA: "I am convinced that you are a normal human being."
JACOB: "Everyone in my tribe is a werewolf. I am in my tribe; I am also a werewolf. We are all werewolves."
BELLA: "I have no reason to believe that you are more than human."

And what exactly is Bella's problem? Why does she fall head-over-heels with an anti-social, almost preternaturally awkward, whiny, mascara-wearing emo cunt?

When i say 'Abortion is murder' i mean just that; it is the taking of life - in that, from conception, a fetus is as definably life as is a bacteria, a puppy, or Stephen Hawking. This is how i think it differs from contraception, masturbation, and not screwing Dave.

Blue_Tetris quotes (all taken from a topic on abortion)

Eating vegetables instead of meat lowers your sperm count, clearly killing potential children. Vegetarians are murderers.

If a chair comes into my house and I don't want it there, I do everything in my power to remove it. What makes you think you have more rights than a chair when you go into someone else's home unannounced?

If I'm sleeping around without a condom, I'm likely to have a child too. When I wear a condom, I prevent the likely child I would have. Condoms are for murderers. I'm good at picking up dates and getting them into the sack, so if I restrain myself from going clubbing then I am prventing a potential child. Non-socialites are murderers.
