Ha. When I was mapping for Horizon, I started an adventure pack just like this. Didn't have the skillz to think of adding the narrative, though...

Flicking though from start to finish, I think you could have done a little more with the story, but overall this looks really effective and there's a good deal of imagination gone into the design.

I'll play through it when I have the time and feedback more. Excellent concept, props. :)

Strange concepts, you used objects and spend effort on the concept rather than gameplay, but this plays good, and concept is amazing.

My favorite map was 3-1. Overall: 8.5/10

@Tunco: Yes, sometimes I felt exactly what you were saying, that I killed gameplay for the atmosphere and the gameplay. But from the start of the mapamaking for this I thought: " I want this to be a real unique concept." And in some cases, I had to decide wether I should now add objects that support the gameplay, or objects that support the atmosphere. Both were not possible. And in this cases, I decided mostly for atmosphere. I don`t know if this was the right decision, but the map feels really unique now. And this is what I wanted.

Fan-fucking-tastic.

At some points the amount of objects caused lag, but I think that's more my computer. I loved the storyline element, and I feel you made the right choice with atmosphere over gameplay (though to me the gameplay still feels awesome in the majority of maps).

:D

I'll begin with saying that this is the most fun i have ever had playing a map pack. I've always been kind of an asshole regarding Nreality (and until now have been largely ignorant of what it can do), but i went ahead and downloaded it anyway because i like brainstone's maps quite a bit and was really wanting to see what he would do with a levelpack.

Now, the amount of nreality things actually USED in this levelpack are incredibly minimal. I went in expecting gimmicky modded rockets, nreality drones and distracting backgrounds, but instead i was greeted with the colors of vanilla Nv1.4 and elegant floating text introducing you to the story brainstone here has created. Now, this in of itself is something absolutely fantastic: when i started mapping i would never have dreamed of playing maps with a text narrative. Story is something i absolutely love about levelpacks and brainstone here has pulled it off absolutely perfectly.

Now for the maps. Brainstone essentially uses Nreality only for the story, and while there are certainly modded objects they could all have been easily done in basic N. What i really enjoy about brainstone's maps is in their very construction: they lend themselves perfectly to a narrated story like this. Everything about each of the maps in this pack drips realism; he has created a fantasy world through a bunch of grey shapes and objects and done so with absolutely amazing accuracy and skill.

What appears to be a messy line of thwumps and normal doors could also be seen as a menacing porticullis that raises and then slams shut when you approach. Rockets and Gauss turrets are accompanied by spare ninjas, giving the illusion of soldiers firing crossbows and guns at you. A simple chaingun suddenly becomes a heavily armored dragoon, and they travel in frightening platoons intent on your swift death. Swamps are covered with 'misty' oneways that are far more sinister than they appear. The text is utilized perfectly, absolutely perfectly.

I frequently found myself laughing out loud while playing this map as i continued to discover badass map after badass map in this pack, and had a very large grin on my face starting from a couple maps in and lasting all the way to the magnificent end.

This pack had the power to make me forget i was playing N - I felt more like i was playing an oldschool fantasy game on the Super Nintendo, and i loved every minute of it.

In conclusion, brainstone's Epic Collection was exactly that. Go play it right now.

EDIT: i regret not playing this earlier so i could nominate it for the dronies :C sorry man!
