my entire life story

120 Days. Four months. It's a long time. Whether you have an assignment for school or are trying to get in somebody's pants, waiting one third of a year might make you go crazy. So if you find out in a few days that I've been admitted to an asylum for the mentally ill, don't be surprised. I just hope it wasn't in vain.

What you are about to experience (if you so choose) are nine episodes of retiles. A few of these are mine from NUMA, and several more are new ones from me. But the rest are by other mappers, and many of them had never retiled before. It was a brand new experience for them, and I'm proud to say I could help. #n will likely tell how often I poked and prodded them all to contribute to this pack, and for the most part it worked out well. (Sorry to: KinGAleX, from whom I stole a spot; Bio, for giving him a map which had already been retiled; ACR and nevershine for making them miss the deadline.)

But I didn't just sloppily scoop them all together in a userlevels.txt and call it done, I went several steps farther. I recruited romaniac, flagmyidol, trance, Seneschal, and zoasBE to play through all the maps and rate them by difficulty. Then I did some number crunching and organized them as best I could so that there is a good variance in authors and a steady increase in difficulty. (The same goes for NIGHT FORCE.) I've also included the original maps in the pack; they have the tag originals as opposed to imposters. Any A map (e.g. 00-0A) will be an original, and the B (and one C) maps will be retiles. There is also a DDA which was retiled, and for that I have included a preloader so that you'll be able to watch it. It's definitely a self explanatory mappack, just play them in order to get the full effect.
(NOTE: The originals are not sorted by difficulty, so I apologize if that messes with your feng shui. You should still play them for comparison purposes, and because they're great maps.)

The first part (aka NIGHT FORCE) of this pack was released last week. It consists of one original map and eight retiles of it, each by a different author. It's a very neat experiment worth checking out. In total there are 56 retiles in the pack, more than my original goal of 30. :D I got to a point where I couldn't stop adding to the pack.

how to download the pack

You'll notice that there isn't an attachment for this mappack, for two main reasons. First, because I plan to keep this pack updated with map numbers as people submit them to NUMA. Second, I don't want to gloat over the amount of downloads (or be tempted to). So, just like NIGHT FORCE, this pack has been uploaded to pastebin. It's extremely easy to dowload the pack. If you don't already have a userlevels.txt file in your N/NReality folder, click the link below and save it as userlevels.txt in said folder. If you already have a userlevels.txt file and plan to add imposters to it, I'd recommend not doing that, otherwise the levels might not play in order. Rename your previous userlevels.txt file or delete it if you don't want it anymore.

Yep, that's about it. And now, four months in the making, here's
imposters.

*I took the image from a threadless shirt/background. Hope they don't mind.

If you contributed a retile, click here.

Many of you haven't seen the rest of the retiles, so maybe you don't know just how big this pack is. *gasp* Now, about submitting the maps to NUMA. Some of you have told me you don't want them submitted, and that's fine with me, but to those of you who do, please follow this layout. This pack'll need some introducing to NUMA since I haven't been advertising it, so this weekend/next week submit one of your retiles, but just one. (Your choice whether or not you want ratings enabled.) I'll be checking NUMA periodically for maps tagged with imposters, so please use that tag so I can add your map number to the pack. Once July rolls around you can submit any others you made. Thank you all so much for supporting this endeavour. I can attest that many of these maps were cool in a way completely unique to retiles.

Wow. I thought I only had one map in this. I don't even remember doing that first one. Scary shit.

Although there are some notable retile maps like those of godless, Sunset and some of yours (like Cparwroacaw and Region), I often felt the originals to be better than the retiles.

All in all: great, ambitous project, featuring innovative ideas and enjoyable game-play.
