Lyrics:Fuck the vuvuzela retailers, I've got ailerons
No rock, just roll like methylenediox-
Double cross like MI5, you're Abwehr, you cannot hide
HUMINT error, Bundeswehr, hit and miss, Trafalgar Square, oh
We got the balls, yeah
We got the balls
We got the balls, yeah
We got 'em
It's the world game and everybody knows it
Americans are afraid to show it love
Romance, fuck it, take off my pants
See the size of my "loan", now let's "refinance"
Afrikaans is nie Nederlands nie, Africa is more than Interahamwe
Yahweh, save me from the din of the crowds and the vuvuzelas, they loud
And ladies, spare me the sideways glances, call me when you're ready for my lewd advances
I've got what you enjoy: in your mouth, all you want is a little bok choy
Having my say in a world cup way
Having my say in a world cup way
Having my say, fuck the USA
Having my way with your sister

I was going to say, lets do one for Christmas, but we might even squeeze another one in sooner. Also, Lenny accidentally uploaded the episode 9 mp3 to iTunes. Hopefully that's fixed now.

Good work with organising and recording these and all that, but I do wish these podcasts were mastered better—all that's needed is some compression and silence truncration and they become so much nicer to listen to.

I only edited 2 or 3 of them, I believe, including the Halloween episode. By compression - do you mean in terms of file size or 'dead air' gaps? 31.4 MB for a 1 hour, 38 minute mp3 is quite compressed and I removed all the significant gaps in post. As for the mastering, it can only be as good as the platform I use to record from - in this case, vent. Which is problematic with people not muting their push-to-talk keys or not using headphones to prevent noise feedback etc. (I actually edited out a lot of the beeps and feedback too; it was actually a lot worse, but I'll try and improve it even more for the next one, I just need cooperation from the other podcasters.reventón wrote:Good work with organising and recording these and all that, but I do wish these podcasts were mastered better—all that's needed is some compression and silence truncration and they become so much nicer to listen to.
What other options are there for recording podcasts over the net, anyway?
thanks for listening and your constructive criticism.

By compression, I mean audio levels. For example, from the last podcast:ska wrote:I only edited 2 or 3 of them, I believe, including the Halloween episode. There's a massive volume difference between the first person speaking and the second. Now, I realise this just the way it comes down from Ventrilo, but the thing is that it doesn't have to remain this way in the podcast. After applying some compression, you can get this:
Similarly, with the gaps, you mentioned you took out all the significant ones, but I'd personally take it much further, along the lines of turning this:
Into this:
For these examples, I used the Compressor and Truncate Silence effects on Audacity with the following settings:

I believe he's talking about sound compression. Basically it amplifies and de-amplifies different frequencies in the sound file (correct me if I'm wrong). Can be used to make the voices louder and the white noise softer.ska wrote:I only edited 2 or 3 of them, I believe, including the Halloween episode. Oh right, yeah I used audacity too for that - except I used 'Normalise' for the loud ones and 'Amplify' for the softer ones. Thanks for showing me this though; it'll help a lot. Secondly, does compression affect dubbed in music levels or not?

I tend to cut out noticeable periods of silence and try to normalize volume via the Vent volume properties. Doesn't work out perfectly, but it's usually decent.

we are also having trouble embedding album art into the individual podcast files. Apparently you need to adjust this on the podcast feed itself for the art to display on download. Anyone else know about this?
