Hello peoples. I've been postponing this post for a few months now cause I never felt like I had the sufficient amount of ideas or didn't catch everyone I wanted to talk to about this on IRC or anywhere. Twas one of those things I kept on the back of my mind and told a few people (Pheidi, per example), but never really realized upon.
Well, I just figured that since the day is pretty goddamn soon and I'm almost drunk, it should be a great time to tell you about it!
This April 4th, the community is having it's 10th anniversary, judged by the first post ever on the old forumer forum. What about we do a special event to commemorate? The community is now pretty much scattered across the internet and real lifes and whatnots, but I do still feel like we should pay a bit of an hommage to this whole thing we did here.
So, the basic idea: an 1-2 hour event, half of it mapping, half of it highscoring. We would all (re)unite on #n and make maps, vote for the 5-10 best, and then highscore the best of 'em! Awards for the best map and best overall highscorer. Awards consisting of metabeers, metawhiskey, metahugs and the sort. Maybe a lil' badge made by the best artists (volunteeeers) on this community!
The point of it isn't really the maps or highscores themselves, obviously. Social event!
So yeah, discuss the hell outta this shit, and let's make it a memorable event :3

if we're going to get technical here, on the old forums if you scroll right to the end, on the left it says "founded 02 apr 2004", so two days earlier than what was suggested
anyway whatever the date i'd be down for something if timezones don't mess with me. maybe if we could get enough momentum we could do another one of those 24-hour nonstop thingies... insomnicon? i can't remember exactly what they were called... i was never involved in one of those previously, but they sound cool.
edit: 750th post yay

Heh, yeah, it all depends on how you want to judge it. My reasoning was that if there was noone talking before that first post, there's no "Community" whatsover. And I'd argue that a friday's better than wednesday for an event like this.999_Springs wrote:if we're going to get technical here, on the old forums if you scroll right to the end, on the left it says "founded 02 apr 2004", so two days earlier than what was suggested0
Okay, so, timezones. I'm GMT, but have no problems staying up till 2-4am for this. So it's at night for americans and afternoon for australians and such.
How's that?

Has anyone told Arachnid about the "503 Over Quota" error? That might get in the way of this celebration...
