Me and FireDevil decided that our first game should be something basic like a platformer. The concept we came up with is a ninja four ascending a 50 floor skyscraper to assassinate someone on the last floor. You would have to ascend by avoiding combat as much as possible (due to the fact that the guards have guns while you have blades) or assassinating the guards without being spotted by cameras, the guards themselves, civians etc. You would start off with a katana, two daggers, three smoke bombs, 3 shurikens/kunai and generic ninja skills. As you progress you will aquire ninja tools (Grappling hook, those claw things that go over your had so you can climb smooth walls etc.) and every 5 levels an ally will give you a choice of 3 usable items: A piece of armour which can stop one bullet, a shuriken refill or a smoke bomb refill. You will be able to aquire new skills and upgrades to your equipment etc.

That's all we have so far, feedback please.

That actually sounds really really good. I'd give ideas...but I don't have any ;_;.

Oh yes, platformer.

I once had this idea about his platformer, it was some person on a mission and arrives at a machine gun turret for a boss (cue boss fight from the get-go). It's destroyed, but it was rigged to a wall of dynamite, causing the wall to suddenly explode and destroy everything in it's path. Basically the screen scrolls quickly, and if you hit the back part of the screen (where the explosions are going at, currently), you lose health. You jump, run, and kill things and then the final boss comes out (this spinning rotating blade that becomes a robot, can only be harmed in robot form) and you kill it. It also comes with a sequel and a sequel to that sequel, but while all of them are platformer, they have different styles completely, and tie up the plot in a nice knot.

Idea for this. How about if for the level design we make 100 or so different rooms and put in random level generation with it set so that when something is placed it always has to have the entrances/exits go throughable (So you don't get doors instead of windows etc.). Although I think this should be added in after the first set tower or something as I imagine it's a bitch to code. On that note we really need to get a coder whether we recruit one or one of us learns a programming language of use to this.

Also sprite for the ninja by animator.

And finally what suggestions do you have for ninja tools, ninja abilities, enemies and the like. There is one rule I want to stick with, nothing too over the top, I like your idea animator but it doesn't really suit a skyscraper, so no screen size mini-boss or anything (Although if you fight the skyscraper boss on the roof it could be huge then). By over the top though I don't mean no spells or crazy enemies just keep in mind that we're inside a sky scraper (There could be themed floors but having an indiana jones style running of the boulder won't work. So suggestions for level themes, enemies, ninja abilities, tools and stuff please.

Quick one from me:

Between sky scrapers you should have a transition game/boss (Pretty much animators idea but different bosses) so for one you could fight a boss while going on a skytrain or something between and then have to descend to the basement floor of that skyscraper and then go through an underground tunnel doing animators boss and have to ascend the next tower etc.

Assassin's Creed: The Platformer.

Except not, cause they have guns.

I like it.

You should definitely be able to wall jump, grab onto pipes and go allong them, swing from lights, and such. A lot of animation, but not really that hard to program if you know you're going to do it when you start code'n.

So what language will this be in? Python? Java? Flash Actionscript 2.0? Flash Actionscript 3.0? C? C++?

EDIT: Oh, and you DEFINITELY need to be able to pick up, throw, and use items. For example, turn over a table and duck behind it for cover from bullets. Pick up a chair and smash an enemy over the head with it. (very subtle, I know) Pick up a bass drum and throw it at a guy. heheheh.

This sounds like a pretty awesome game. You could use dark and light areas to hide from people. Different enemies could have different sight and sound thresholds. Running makes you louder and more visible. Enemies can hear you no matter which way they're facing, but if you're farther away they won't notice. But they can only see you if you're infront of them, but if you'll be seen unless you're hiding under a table, in a dark corner.... in the ventilation system (heh).

would each floor be a level where you had to attack and bypass a security system (varying to prevent boredom)?

I was thinking a lot of rooms (And I mean a lot) with set markers on the edges to show where they would go in a building so we could use random generation because from my experience with games (Spelunky among others) even if a game is stupidly hard if everything is slightly different each time you play it stays entertaining for ages.

Also Exuberance dunno about picking up and throwing stuff, you're suppsosed to be really limited in ways of killing (With about the only ranged weapon you use ever being shurikens which aren't exactly plentiful) so you have to get behind/close to guards before attacking. If you're spotted at range you're pretty much as good as dead.

Before any one says anything, no he will not use guns. You know those ninja samurais and their crazy ideals.

Yes he is a ninja samurai.

We could just remake N, but give the ninja a katana. That would be cool.

How unoriginal.

Also what program are you using for the game? The program Sandbox actually can make games with Halo quality! Not really platformer but still. Anyway, just asking what you are gonna use for this.

Also, I think you should avoid using so many weapons, seriously, katanas and 2 daggers? Also I was thinking on every new level you could become more futuristic. Eventually fighting robots with lasers and arron rays and blade tanks etc and what not. Though that would be a bit too complicated i'm just sending off ideas.

Good luck guys! Also you might want some help on the actual making, it would speed up 'e process and might make the game better quality :D Good luck ;)!!

Even I don't know anything about programming(except for a while,I tried to make a game, but it turned out to be crap when it finished)but good luck with that,it sounds very good.

That sounds like a really cool game, as long as it didn't get overly complicated near the end. Perhaps extra bonuses as the game goes on?
