This idea was developed by Naczz; I'm just administrating the thread for convenience's sake. Basically, discuss which maps/film/music you would like to see reviewed by our team within each issue of NNN. A new issue will be posted every week, hopefully, so keep that in mind. I'll keep an archive of what you pick on here, again, for convenience's sake.
There is one spot for a map, a film and an album/single respectively, so we shouldn't need too much demand to reach a consensus. However, some demand would be appreciated.

What relevance does reviews of music and film have within our community? If I want to read reviews of these things I will read reviews from professional outlets and experienced writers.
Personally, I think you should stick closer to our community, the people here and notable elements within mapping and highscoring.

Hmmm, good thinking mintnut. I was moving along the lines that it would go further in depth about the team's choices and personalities, but I can see those things being more important. Most of the focus is in the community at the moment, so I'll try and maintain that ethos more closely.

GTM, if you stick to reviewing maps, and cover as many good maps per week as possible, you could partially solve the problem that everyone's been harping on about: maps not getting enough attention. This is one thing the Sunday N did.

Hmm...
Well, we believed the map review section would do 1 map a week, otherwise we'll end up with a whole load of good maps, that were reviewed, and a whole load of unnoticed maps people think were not so good.
That was our opinion...

Hmmm. Considering the feedback, we should probablt revise that system. Maybe instead of doing a map, a film and a book, we should just do three maps. We should make sure they're all distinct from each other though; we don't want identikit clones coming up. Maybe we should do the one that's got the most attention, the one that we think needs the most attention, and one of the featured maps?

Why not try 2 reviews, one of a more recent map, the other an older ("classic") map. Maybe an interview with a prominent member of the community, too? It would be useful for newer members to see where the older, (better) members get their inspiration from, how they makes maps, and their general tips on mapmaking.
Just a couple of ideas...

You have the perfect template/foundation: The Sunday N. It was relevant and people enjoyed it. Of course, make your own project stand out, but the base should be similar imo.

Yeah, definitely bring back artist commentary of the third kind. That was a fantastic piece.

Wait, is this a magazine? Is it coming out monthly? If it is, is maybe something like this:
- Editorial and Table of content
- (Optionally) Special article, like an interview with some forum member, talking about some new application or a fan game based on N...
- Some game review
- Some application review
- Recommended websites
- Five maps of the month (it would be good if they weren't featured already on NUMA)
- (Optionally) Three mappacks of the month
- Recommended videos
- Some music album review
- Crossword or something like that
- Webcomic of the month
- Closing
I think something like this would be extremely awesome.

I think they've pretty much already decided not to review other media:EdoI wrote:Wait, is this a magazine? Is it coming out monthly? If it is, is maybe something like this:

I think if were gonna do map-packs that we should just do one each month, and have a reviewer review it.

Not a reviewer, it can be a staff of nnn, or a random person selected for that month, which is going to be review that map-pack.Erik-Player wrote:I think if were gonna do map-packs that we should just do one each month, and have a reviewer review it.

While I think you should stick mostly to the structure of The Sunday N, some new features would be nice, too, and focusing on other elements of the community instead of just map reviews, i.e. highscoring, map-packs, etc.
A crossword would be difficult to do, unless you stole one from an actual newspaper...
Another idea: An Agony Aunt (Uncle?) Column.

Actually... that's perfect. If anyone has a scanner handy, be free to scaff the crossword from a newspaper and add it to the webpage :Pcheesemonger wrote: A crossword would be difficult to do, unless you stole one from an actual newspaper...
Also, thanks Gloomp. We'll add you on the team list as a mercenary, just because it sounds cool.

Unfortunately, I don't have a scanner...
Ify you were desperate you could do that with sudoku too, with the eight enemies and the ninja replacing the numbers.

Not really; you just look for the different symbols. It's the same, just different characters.Donfuy wrote:That would be really freaking confusing.cheesemonger wrote:Ify you were desperate you could do that with sudoku too, with the eight enemies and the ninja replacing the numbers.

I do have a scanner but can't get any crosswords on English. But just search in Google "crosswords" and you'll get some nice stuff. And I've registered at one crossword compiler but I can't use it. I'll see for some more when I have some free time.
