If NReality lags and v2 runs like butter...

Note: This was original told to me by CF, who was originally told by TS. Maybe somebody told TS, and perhaps the chain of knowledge for the following tip knows no end.
If Nv2 runs flawlessly on your computer, but NReality lags for no particular reason,
(a problem, according to CF, that frequently occurs on PCs with multi-core processors), (I misread, multi-core processors in themselves aren't the issue, but rather the processing power of one of the cores), and you have tried all of the traditional fixes, then creating a projector of the NReality swf using the more current version of flash that Nv2 runs on may help:
Note: This is aimed towards windows users, but I assume there is a similar process for mac and maybe linux?
Note: You may want to back up your
.sol, just in case something goes horribly awry.
- Open both your NReality and Nv2 folder(s?) in two(?) separate windows (if applicable... you should be able to see all of NReality's files and Nv2-PC.exe simultaneously)
- Locate the NReality_v6g2.swf (not exe) in your NReality folder, and drag it onto Nv2-PC.exe to open it with that version of Flash (probably 11.1.r102)
- If step 2 was done correctly, NReality should now be running with Nv2's version of flash. (Hopefully N does not appear to be running at an abnormally speed, but that may not matter)
- Click on File and choose the Create Projector... option, and then save the file as whatever you want; just be sure to save it in the same folder as the original NReality!
And that's it! Hopefully, the next time you open the newly created version of NReality (the one with the red square flash icon),
it will run. it will run without the lag that plagued NReality before!

I've tried this with both Windows 7 and 8 on different machines. It decreases the lag a bit but increases loading time tenfold and still runs a bit laggy. I haven't gotten NReality to run smoothly on W7/8 yet.

A couple years ago when I used Win7, the classic fixes worked for me with NReality, although I suppose you've tried them already right? (The WinXP SP2 compatibility mode, disabling visual themes, etc etc). Also, do you play in medium quality?
Finally, have you tried playing it in 256 colors?

It's weird, because I have a Windows 7 computer that runs NReality fine with the classical fixes; however, my Windows 8 laptop (when I had it, at least) has the opposite problem. I know it's not a RAM issue; both computers should be capable on paper... very annoying. I'm just going to blame Bill Gates, even though he hasn't been the CEO for years...

Yes, I did all of that on both machines. But 2.0 is running fine at least.
Btw, Win XP SP2 doesn't help but crashes about 50% of the time.
I've used a virtual machine with XP but I think it also lagged a bit and had the running abnormal message every minute.

I tried the method and it worked pretty well (awesome job!), but the thing is as people might have noticed nv2 runs a little bit slower than nreality, i mean the physics, and nreality runs a little faster, and by doing this method it made my nreality slow too, but didnt lag at all. The thing is, i have windows 7 too and it just works like nv2 (buttery) and i run it on my corei5 laptop too and doesnt lag at all! Am i the only person whose nreality doesnt lag???

dragging the NReality swf into the N 2.0 icon does make the game run smoothly, but unfortunately won't allow you to login to your highscores account (or view scores for that matter); obviously, this makes highscoring impossible to do if you can't submit your run.

Doesn't sidke have the nreality source? why not just recompile against latest flash and call it a new version?

Well... this was unexpected.
Edit: it works!
Have my babies, sidke!

if you downloaded since i posted, please redownload there were some discrepancies between the mac and pc versions i compiled that caused some server verification issues with demos

Wait this is huge, has it really fixed all lag in modern Windows OS? (asking because I'm still in XP) Because as far as I remember that's what made many v2.0 players reluctant to use(ing?) NReality. Thanks sidke ;D

I downloaded this to try it out (on Windows 7), it would run really smoothly to start, but then I would get random lag spikes and frame loss (even though I don't have this problem at all in nv2).
I'll probably be sticking to v6 with the current lag fixes, but it's good to hear this is working for some people.

Do you have lag issues with n2?

I think this is why a few players stopped, like oleary. A lot of v2 players aren't used to nreality, however, so I doubt that the population will grow exponentially or anything, but it's still damn cool. Good job sidke.

I noticed it seems to dramatically increase (by about 2x) the load time for each level, meaning I'll probably be sticking to 6g2 for RTA speedruns.
On that note, is the text in the upper-left saying "v7 has been released" there to stay? Any way to get rid of it?

sidke magick'd that up in the corner and he'll probably delete it once a fair amount of people see it. AFAIK you can't remove it yourself since it's attached to the server.

I have lag with the new v7, like it takes a few seconds for flash to register my movement which sucks a bit to be honest..
I don't know if I should post some info?
