Video Cameras [UPDATED]

I am excitedly waiting for my new Sanyo WH1 to come in the mail tomorrow. It's a major step up from my four and-a-half year old JVC camcorder. While my new one may not be highest quality (it films in HD, but not "full HD"), it's got the best bang for it's buck. I am extremely excited about the range of possibilities that come with the ability to film up to 10 feet underwater without having to drop another $200-$300 for an underwater housing. If I had the money, I would purchase a Canon or Sony HD camcorder. Those seem to be top notch consumer cameras. Of course if I had a big budget picture, I would settle for a RED. *drool*

Anyone have any recommendations, or have goods they'd like to show off? I'm working on a project for my film class over the next few days and when it's done I'll post a review of the Sanyo as well as the video.

We've been kicking around the idea of buying a red. :{

But yeah, no, my film projects won't really kick into gear until midway through the semester. So I'll get back to you.

Those looks awesome.

I've not gotten much into film cameras, I must say, but I've got a friend with a HD Sony Handycam (personally, my family settled for a low-quality Samsung model for a few decent price), which has some amazing features and is certainly the best lightweight camera I've ever used.

Sanyo WH1 underwater footage

Regular footage

While not "full" HD, it's HD enough to repeatedly drop frames during playback on Final Cut Pro if you don't have a fast enough computer. It's a great camera, compact, and good features for the price, which is fairly cheap. The only problem I've faced thus far is image quality in low-lighting. Other than that it's fantastic. If you need a good camera for your daily point-and-shoot needs. Not to mention it goes up to 10 feet underwater.
