Zombieland

I went in expecting this to be a "Scary Movie" type flick that did nothing more than dumbly spoof the whole zombie franchise. Instead, I was welcomed with a hilarious film with a decent plot, great actors, and an amazing 15-minute cameo scene that I wouldn't even dream of spoiling. If you had doubts about this film, calmly set them aside and go purchase a ticket.

I don't know where you people get your initial impressions for films. The girlfriend thought that this looked like stupid garbage. (Earlier this year, she also thought The Hangover was going to be just another stoner comedy and that The Informant was going to be a boring drama. ...)

I knew this would be good, and it fucking was. There's a cameo -- Don't go to IMDB or Wikipedia or ANYTHING before seeing the movie -- That is absolutely fucking classic.

Very stylish, and not in a bad way as some flashy Snyder/Bay/Emmerich films can be these days. The acting was top-notch for the two male leads as well; Woody Harrelson is always great, and although the lead guy looks and acts mostly like Micheal Cera, he has more depth to him and he really works it well. The little sister in this movie is fucking great, too. (Lil Miss Sunshine girl? Wiki is broken for me. :/) The older sister was... all right. Her character and performance were the main detractors for me; she seemed tacked on, and the acting was, well, okay. Also, the narration was interesting and unique, but at times felt disingenuous.

Which isn't to say I didn't like the movie; it's fucking hilarious, touching, and unique from Shawn of the Dead, which is good because both movies tramp all over the same ground.

Props from Slappy. 8/10.

Holy shit, that was Abigail Breslin. Huh.

I like that the movie didn't feel like it had to end on a downer.

Did you see the movie "The Goods (Live Hard, Sell Hard)"?

I'd like to hear your opinions of that one.

I have not. I'll make an effort and get back to you.

I liked it but it had some major failings. Everytime Columbus rambled about how he's never been loved and never felt the touch of a woman and drinks too much Mountain Dew, I frowned. I didn't come to this theatre to watch a coming of age movie, I came to watch some fucking zombies get fucked up. Also, outside of her amazing, chubby roll in Little Miss Sunshine, I find Abigail Breslin to be almost entirely despicable. It's probably just me but I found her to be almost distracting whenever she was in scene. Personal problems, probably. I think the beginning credits was one of my favourite parts, too. It was just shot really well. The cameo, despite being awesome, ended predictably and felt, well, it just felt sort of out of place. I liked it because it was wicked but disliked it because it didn't feel natural.

I want them to make a sequel which includes most of the same jokes and extra blood. Watching Woody Harrelson beat the shit out of people with baseball bats is addicting.

Agree with Tanner that the end was perfect--it would have killed the joyful feeling I had if anyone had died. Except, possibly, Abigail Breslin.

TIME TO NUT UP OR SHUDDUP!!!

great movie, i expected something like shaun of the dead, which wouldve been fine anyways, but it was better then anything i couldve imagined

EDIT: honestly Tanner, i woulda shot both those bitches after the first time they stole my car and guns, and i would have DEFIANTLY raped them with my gun before blowing em both away (in the cunt, out the dome) for stealing my hummer with tier 2 guns (L4D humor anyone?). but thats just what i would do if i was Tallahassee. to hell with love and sex in the zombie apocolypse, i wouldnt even risk smoking a joint.

It was the best. The rules popping up all the time really worked for me, better then Shaun of the Dead, imo.

Mmhmm. Mmhmm. Yeah, I enjoyed it very much, but I don't think it was Tarantino's best work.
