IHC: Institute for Human Continuity

I was watching the television (well, actually, the light waves produced by the television) a few weeks ago and saw an ad for the IHC, or Institute for Human Continuity. I dug into the abhorrently large data mass of the Internet and found that it was part of the viral marketing campaign for a movie called 2012.

The marketing campaign in particular seems quite thorough indeed, with several related sites:

The IHC: The Institute for Human Continuity - This is the website set up by the fictional U.S. Government organization (supposedly) dedicated to saving the human race through the use of a lottery.
This Is The End - A website written by the fictional person Charlie Frost, who is essentially a conspiracy theorist.
Corruption Theory - A blog written by Corruption Theory, a fictional IHC employee who is suspicious about activities at the IHC.

I just thought it looked like a neat little set-up, and was wondering about your opinions on it.

ARGs used in viral marketing /used to/ be cool. I'd say that ended... with ilovebees.com, which advertised Halo 2, and the conglabberation of sites that introduced me to the phenomenon, centered around 1-18-08.com and others, for Cloverfield.

I'll still check this one out, though :p

Too bad it's all for such a bad movie.

Viral Marketing is actually pretty standard these days, although this one has gotten much more exposure. I'm pretty sure shit like The Stepfather remake gets one.

I love the IHC website. It has animations that could demonstrate the disasters.

If one of the disasters are going to happen, planet x is the least likely one to happen.
