EWW. The first one was good but I don't see how they can make a good second. Its always sequels that ruin the saga.

The trailer looks great.

The trailer looks great. The first movie didn't have a script, so I am cautious about a scripted sequel, but it might be good.

This reminds me - Slappy, you and I need to produce a Whose Line Is It Anyway? movie.

That is amazing.
I already have a copy of the movie on my computer, but I am going out to buy a fucking DVD. And Blu-Ray. And I don't even have a Blu-Ray player. That's how impressed I am.

I have it on Bluray for that exact reason. Also, could you add me to the admin group? Thanks.

KA and I were actually talking about this yesterday.
No, I can't. I'd like to, but I can't. I don't appear to have the permissions to do so.

This quote somewhat surprised me. The Dude always struck me as an improv-type character.

Trailer seems cool. I might consider reading the comic of Iron Man. I won't watch the movie.

I tried to do so myself, and also appear unable to. Must rest on the shoulders of LittleViking.

Slappy this may be off topic, but your profile picture of Fry is awesome.

I may post the movie preview later on so I can *prove* to people who don't believe.

I saw it and it's pretty good, however they failed at referencing other characters from the team something chronic. What the shit was that with the Sheild? Didn't explain anything. :|

...It's Captain America's shield...

Also if anyone is confused at nick fury being black it's because movieverse fury is based off of the ultimate comics version.

Huh! I just thought that they'd cast it that way because "damn the source material, Samual L. Jackson is boss" but that makes sense.

No, I knew it was Captain America's shield, but what the fuck was it doing in Tony's basement? It appeared out of the blue with no explanation for about 15 seconds, with a character intentionally drawing audience attention to it, then it disappeared back into the ether, never to be mentioned again.

I mean, it's clear what they were trying to do, but I don't think they could have done it in a worse way. :|

It's because the capt america movie is coming out soon as part of the new united movieverse (Next ones are: Thor, Captain America: The first avenger and The Avengers), ever since ironman they have been blatantly referencing The Avengers (Even more so in IM2) and hinting at the members, also it's a joke of Tony having one of the most significant items in the US (And potentially very useful to him since it's made out of some sort of super metal) and not knowing.

I saw it at the midnight premiere locally. Pretty damn awesome. (Although the short clip in the commercial/trailer for it where Pepper throws his helmet out the back of the plane isn't actually in the movie, which I hate it when studios do that).

OK film.

Far too much character interaction and not enough Iron Man, imo. Even though all the characters are decent, it just felt like the movie was constantly building up and the payoffs never satisfied relatively.

The final battle just peters out after a pretty explosive opening, which was really disappointing.

Oh, and there are so many moments I rolled my eyes with this one. The first film covered the use of tech really well and made it either outlandishly cartoonish in keeping with the source so it was never a question of the real world breaking immersion or used just enough actual technospeak to satisfy. It did this without ever feeling like it was dumbing anything down, more that it was purposely skirting /just/ enough to avoid it.

In this one we have a dude walking up to a console and breaking through the firewall by tapping on the keys for a few seconds and guessing the password (standard Hollywood "hacker" fare) and the creation of a new element with the kind of deus ex machina that makes you wonder if they even bothered to screen the initial story ideas at all.

Oh, and Don Cheadle's Rohodey doesn't come alive until the last few minutes of the film. Up until that point he's far too serious and there's no chemistry at all between him and Stark. The final battle is really great, they communicate like a couple of kids playing a video game (congratulating each other on well executed kills and such) and they suddenly feel connected. The very final scene between them on the roof sees some excellent banter that was missing from the entirety of the film before it and makes his character seem like a massively missed opportunity.

Overall it suffers in the only way (imo) TDK suffered, that they tried to introduce too much in an effort to up the excitement. The first Iron Man (watched it again last night) is really well balanced in this regard while the new film muddles itself slightly in its efforts.

Overall, it's a fun movie, and I'd definitely recommend it. I just wouldn't expect the same kind of gloss the first film so effortlessly achieved.

Exactly, exactly, exactly. Except that the deus ex machina I focused on was Samuel L. Jackson's organization magically having a slow-down for Stark's "disease."
