A great finale scene can really save a film or push it over the edge to provide that lasting memory. These are some of my favorite finales of all time, in order. Feel free to discuss.

1. There Will Be Blood
Fuck, Daniel Day Lewis is the greatest actor ever.

2. The Graduate
Classic, it's a must on any list.

3. Fight Club
Wish this clip had the gun part. Love the symmetry, love the pixies, love the explosions.

4. Rushmore
This ending doesn't mean much without the rest of the movie, but the final lines are really great. Also really love the symmetry of the slow motion dance scene.

5. Lost in Translation
I couldn't find a clip that didn't ruin the whisper. Really great emotional moment, great song (just like honey) to end it with.

6. The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
There is such a build up to this scene.

7. Pulp Fiction
This whole movie is amazing.

8. Se7en
D: Kevin Spacey is an evil genius.

9. Donnie Darko
Kind of wish this clip had Frank getting shot. Ah well. But anyways, really pretty ending, what with the self sacrifice and what not.

10. Memento
Lets hope inception is as good as this.

A good chunk of these have slow motion clips, which makes sense because that is the best finale to anything.

Mulholland Dr., Requiem for a Dream, (and The Wrestler for that matter) both Kill Bills, and Adaptation.

I like endings that don't commit themselves to just one possible interpretation or version of events, or leave what happens next up to the imagination of the viewer.

Paths of Glory, The Hustler, Cool Hand Luke, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Being There, Once Upon a Time in America, After Life, Children of Men, Let the Right One In and A Serious Man are some of my favourite films that do this for me.

Oh, oh, oh, and to bring an element of television into this, the Angel Finale which I happened to watch last night is spectacular!

Lost in Translation is one of those films that leaves the ending up to the viewer. I think in some cases if the movie calls for it, it works. In Lost in Translation, you're just happy to see them reunite one last time and finally share a kiss we all saw coming an hour before. What was said, or what happens next is not important.

Huh, 4 of them to be exact. I didn't realize it had so many, I only noticed the Wes Anderson ones at first. But yeah, slo mo rocks.

Also, The Wrestler has an amazing ending.

The simple reason for that is that I haven't seen The Prestige.

BUT I CAN'T BELIEVE--oh. Well.

What rocket_thumped said, minus Lost in Translation because I've not seen it, plus Heavenly Creatures, for the way it brutally and abruptly drops us back into the reality of what's happening.

Oh, Hot Fuzz, definitely. It's just so amazingly over-the-top and awesome at the same way. Inglourious Basterds had a good finale, especially with that Hitler's face getting torn up.

Oh, of course, how could I forget Hot Fuzz? Total curveball. And IB was weird and different.

Also, someone brought up Unforgiven on IRC yesterday, and I was reminded of this thread. What you were expecting to happen at the end of that movie does not happen.

That's cool, I love twists. Especially when they are a natural development of the character or the themes of the story. Ain't that right, M Night Shaymamalalan? OR WOULDNT IT BE COOL IF SOME SHIT HAPPENS FOR NO REASON THAT IS TOTALLY SHOCKING

Personally, I kinda liked the ending to The Departed (warning: it's pretty bloody). It's far better if you watch the whole movie, but this clip is the best I could do.
