There are a number of great, well-known comedians out there - which is your favourite?

Some of my favourites are Frankie Boyle, Jo Brand and Paul Merton.

Stand-up? Richard Pryor, Andy Kaufman and George Carlin. (EDIT: D'oh! I forgot Lenny Bruce.)

As far as live skits and taped comedy go, John Belushi is the funniest person who ever lived. No contest.

Bill Hicks is the only person I find consistently funny throughout his care...

Dara O'Brien and Ed Byrne instantly pop to mind. Michael McIntyre would be another favourite.

Going by albums I own, Mitch Hedberg, Demetri Martin, and Mike Birbiglia. Eddie Izzard and Emo Philips are good too, although they're both pretty strange.

Bill Cosby. Tim Minchin. Jim Gaffagin.
All the necessities.

Jim Gaffigan, Mitch Hedburg, Dane Cook, and George Carlin are funny dudes. Oh, also Dave Chappelle. Dude's funny as all hell.

For movies and stuff, Eddie Murphy has had some good movies, Steve Martin's someone I like a lot, and Ben Stiller's pretty funny sometimes.

yeah, Eddie Murphy's early films are a good for some laughs: especially 48 Hrs, holy dyna is that movie a cinematic marvel.

Daniel Tosh, Dylan Moran, Brian Regan, and Eddie Izzard. Some Mitch Hedberg, but for me he gets tiring quite fast.

I'm going to see Eddie Izzard live when he comes to Toronto!!! WOOOOO!

George Carlin, Lewis Black, Daniel Tosh, and Dave Chappelle are my four favorite comedians of all time.

Paul Merton. His series on Channel 4 in the 90s is surprisingly underrated ;_;

In terms of live shows, Rowan Atkinson's early shows with Angus Deayton are a must see.
