I -- what the ... okay, why did all of you view the trailer and assume TLA would be worth money? Have you all lost your fucking minds? (I'm looking at you, Calvin.)

That movie looked terrible, terrible, from the get-go.

From twitter:

"Last Airbender" got a 6% on 'Rotten Tomatoes.' Do you know how bad a film has to be to get below 15%? "2 Girls 1 Cup" got an 18%.

The last time I watched a trailer for this it didn't look that bad. The reviews so far are very scathing, I wonder if poor M Night will have much of a career left after this...

M Night Shambalaya is an idiot. He does not understand story structure, or themes, or visual appeal. It's a marvel he made one good film, let alone two.

The biggest problem is that the movie felt very rushed. There were lots of things that were completely skipped over, not to mention that they completely ruined the idea of Bending. No longer can Firebenders create fire of their own free will, they actually need the presence of fire to Bend it. Also an entire form is required to even start Bending whereas in the show Bending is an extension of the martial art and not a result of the martial art.

Every character was dull and uninteresting. Casting was horrible. Shyamalammadingdong keeps responding to accusations of racism in the film (making the protagonists white and everyone else, both "bad" and extra characters, of some Western Asian descent) by claiming that Anime is in of itself an ambiguous art form. Regardless the guy could have cast the characters by their skin colour and completely ignored whether they were of Southern American descent or of Mongolian descent.

The film itself is hard to focus on. Everything is dark and muddled. The action looks choppy and pieced together from 3 or 4 different takes. There are no emotions, just words. Everything was vapid and detached, like you were half awake laying on Appa the whole time wondering what the fuck was going on.

Apparently M. Night the writer is terrible, but M. Night the director is good.

I respectfully disagree. People like to say this to somehow redeem him, but his direction ranges from terrible to mild.

I allways thought he would have been more successful if he hired a writer.
Gahh, i was looking forward to seeing this! The show is legendary and deserves a good film adaption.

I respectfully meh. I haven't actually seen his films- I'm not huge on movies normally.

The biggest problem is that they tried to make a live-action movie out of Avatar. Avatar made sense as an animated series. Now, admittedly, I haven't seen this in theaters, but based on the trailers, Avatar works as a live-action movie about as well as Diet Coke and Mentos work as an improvised explosive device.

You know what would work better as a live-action movie? Pokémon. Justin Bieber could voice Pikachu (considering his voice is high enough), and Megan Fox could add some sex appeal to Misty's character.

Before anyone freaks out, no, I am not trying to compare Avatar to Pokémon.

The whole 4 seasons of Avatar the Last Airbender is like 40 times longer than that of Avatar. It is kind of rushed that way. It wasn't a very good movie choice. It would have at least been a bit better if it was split into 4 or 5 movies. The magic is still in the animation, but at least it would have some structure.

(Lots of movies are different that their past books/TV series etc.)

It was intended to be a trilogy, covering only the beginning. Which it did, albeit poorly.

*Ahem*

Granted, it's for the Wii and DS. And it's from Zuko's perspective. So some might say that it isn't really a game. But still.

<Yanni> And there was a good 20 seconds in one scene where I kid you not there was a penis in the middle of the screen.

Hence, watch this movie.

Or maybe it was just a penis. But one can hope.

Someone needs to play the concerned parent and report the film for inappropriate content for its age rating, just so we can get the last airbender bumped up to a 18/AO rating.

Damnit, I was hoping this was going to be good. From purely a CGI/effects perspective, there is a lot they could have done with bending to make a totally badass looking movie. Obviously the story would have to be edited a bit, and spanned over multiple movies, but as long as it was half faithful to the series, it could have been worth the while. I guess I'll have to watch the rifftrax to this in 2 years to see it, like I did Eragon. Curse you Hollywood for ruining perfectly good stories with your shitty acting and horrible choices of story-cutting (or just plain making-the-fuck-up).
