In the other room, my girlfriend and her younger brother are watching Jurassic Park. They became so spooked by one of the raptors that they fell backwards off of their chairs, screamed, and are drenched in a cold sweat.
I am not watching the film, however, it made me wonder when the last time I felt actively engaged in a film; more directly, when the last time I had a physical reaction like a scream or a jump. It's been a long time for me; probably five years, maybe longer. I occasionally cry at movies (fuck you, toy story 3) but I don't react like they do.
How bout you folk'm?

I'm pretty unresponsive (physically) to movies as well. I don't get the sudden urge to move after seeing something that's completely shocking, scary, or otherwise surprising. Other than emotional reactions, I can't think of a movie where I've had a physical reaction to. I've had some delayed reactions from movies though, such as being freaked out or just paranoid from films such as "The Thing."
However, this does not apply to video games. I've jumped a little bit on certain games, such as Silent Hill and the like. I think it's the fact that I'm actually more drawn into a game than a movie - the fact that I have actual control over a plot may make it so.

I think the only emotional response to a movie or TV show I end up acting out is disgust. It's mostly in response to extremely unfortunate social situations, such as one of the characters in a sitcom being isolated with a caricature of an unhygienic person. When they're grotesque enough, I cringe and shrink away from the screen.
I don't cry when I watch depressing movies because I'm not a little ninny bitch like Slaps (except that I sometimes do ;_;).

I saw the movie at the same age and couldn't sleep for weeks. Re: Jumanji and the Matrix.987654321 wrote:Very unresponsive to movies. I watched "The Exorcist" when I was 12 and I didn't flinch even once.

I've gotten goosebumps from movies and stuff before. Other than that, no reactions.
Well, maybe I had some kind of physical reactions to Courage the Cowardly Dog when I was a kid. That show was just creepy.

I am the same way. Sometimes I think I analyze the movie and it gets in the way of experiencing it.SlappyMcGee wrote:In the other room, my girlfriend and her younger brother are watching Jurassic Park. Goddamn, yes. That show is the David Lynch of Saturday morning cartoons. It really should be a Saturday midnight cartoon, though.Zilla wrote:Well, maybe I had some kind of physical reactions to Courage the Cowardly Dog when I was a kid. That show was just creepy.
I've certainly jumped at movies more than a few times. Jump cuts deserve their name. I've also been known to cry when the dog dies or whatever, but I can't think of an instance of that in the past few months. Also, Inglorious Basterds was funny front to back, scalpings certainly included.

I've seen "The Exorcist" about 167 times, and it keeps getting funnier every single time I see it! Not to mention the fact that you're talking to a dead guy, now what do you think? Do you think I'm qualified?

EDIT: And now I've read the thread. Apparently everyone /did/ laugh.

Of all things that would make you scream, the twist in Fight Club did?Limer wrote:The twist in Fight Club really had me screaming
Also, I saw Toy Story 3 last night, and I fucking cried. That's probably the most invested I've ever been in a movie. Except maybe Inglourious Basterds. For some reason, I started to get really nervous and sweaty near the end of the movie. I still don't understand why...

Wait, what's so bad about Jumanji? Maybe this is because I was already in middle school when I watched it, but I didn't find Jumanji to be all that creepy/scary/off-putting/whatever.Blackson wrote:Ugh, Jumanji...SlappyMcGee wrote:987654321 wrote: Re: Jumanji
