So, I recorded an audiobook for my ladyfriend for Christmas and because I spent so much time and effort on it I'm proud enough of it to put it up here.
The book is Lockpick Pornography by Joey Comeau (you may be familiar with his other work, A Softer World). It has been described as a "genderqueer adventure story". It was originally release for free online as a pdf but the site for that has lapsed. I have included the pdf in the zip file that has my recording so that you can follow along if you so choose. I've also snipped a little excerpt for you to help decide if this is worth your time: http://www.box.net/shared/0u20axtfqf
The recording comes in at around 2 hours and 11 minutes and is a 35MB download. It's encoded at mp3 V8 which should be enough but I'll get around to uploading higher quality files later.
Lockpick Pornography Audiobook MP3 V8 Low quality. Recommended.
Lockpick Pornography Audiobook FLAC Very high quality. Probably not necessary.
I recorded an audiobook.

It's some old $25 microphone that I got at Future Shop. Not professional level but the sound is adequate.Universezero wrote:Just out of curiosity, what microphone did you use to record it?

You read too fast.
Back when I was doing daily hour-long commutes (plus another hour+ on the way back), I started looking into audio books in a (mostly vain) effort to make productive use of that time. One thing I found out rather quickly was that I highly preferred readers who took their time, who made sure to say each sentence as though there was no other context for it besides itself. I'm by no means a slow thinker or anything, but listening to a monologue for hours on end really dulls any focus you may have started with. It's much easier to enjoy an audiobook when you don't have to keep your mind sharp.
In the future, I think you'd do better to narrate as though your audience is an inebriated fourth-grader surrounded by shiny, noisy distractions.

Thanks for the input! I put a lot of effort into making it as tight and cohesive as possible because the person that it was explicitly recorded for likes to listen to the audio as she follows along in the book. I'll keep that in mind, though.
