Animal Farm, by George Orwell.

JK. This is what I think:

I had to read this my freshmen year. The teacher was a really boring, really lonely old man. That made everything in the class extremely bland, including any books we read. I'm sure Animal Farm would've been good if circumstances had been on my side, but alas, they were not. ;_;

I've recently been reminded of my favorite work of fiction. I've been inspired to re-read The Picture of Dorian Gray, and encourage you to (re-)read it as well.

A strange twist in the personality of Tsukatu. I quite liked that novel as well.

The Illuminatus! Trilogy.

No, but seriously, Heart of Darkness

Heart of Darkness was not a movie. Apocalypse Now was heavily based on HoD, but it was still very different.

I was thinking of The Ghost and the Darkness when he said it was a movie.

You've apparantly (and unforgiveably) not seen the Tim Roth/John Malkovich adaptation from the early Nineties. Fool.

That's ridiculous. Heart of Darkness is one of the greatest books ever written in any language. I'm sure your teacher will not mind you doing a report on it. (It might help if you claim not to have seen the movie.)

Perhaps one of the parts of Joyce's Ulysses? Individually they are quite brief.

Ulysses once resulted in a prosecution for obscenity and was made into a film, so probably not appropriate.

Eurgh, a movie? That'd either be the most annoying film, or the most boring one, depending on the naration.

The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand is very entertaining to read, I do not care much about the philosophical message it tries to convey though. The plot is easy to understand and the characters are unique and all likable to some extent.

Also, the author has a great grasp of the English language for a Russian Jew.

The Atrocity Archives and The Fuller Memorandum by Charles Stross. I have only read half of the latter, and I haven't read the former, but I got the feeling this would be right up Metanet's alley. Right up there.

Oh god oh god ... Ms. Rand is turning in her grave.

I'm reading The Picture of Dorian Gray.
