Hurray, bbbwj's, bbcj's, and thwump cjs are still possible (because they're technically wall jumps)!

Fnord/EddyMataGallos: I can confirm that replay data is not stored on the client side.

Proof: I was testing the notorious glitch where you press the apostrophe key to automatically win a level, and landed a fake score on A4-3. I asked M&R to remove it, which they did, and now I don't have a personal best score listed on that level, so all personal bests and replays and stuff are stored on the server only.

A bit of a shame though, if we want to be able to play offline.

Another thing: what's the point of having the number of gold pieces for userlevel ratings round downwards, instead of rounding to the nearest whole number? Then no map will ever get a 5 rating if one person ever rates it less than 5, which is kind of dumb.
Achievements:

Completed N and NReality.
106 N v1.4 highscores.
I used to maintain 1000 NReality Level Top20 Highscores - Ranked 0th
Former Owner of Episode 169, way back when.
I've taken 10 Metanet 0ths. 6 of them lasted <2 days. I don't have any of them anymore. >:(
Third Place in BLUR 4 highscore.
Not highscoring anymore until v2.

I don't get you bro,
And as for being silly, I think it's rather clear that a lot of work (in the new codebase, so it doesn't matter what happened in N before) went intomaking recording and playback working in the first place, while then just making that available/storable/sharabale seems like a much simpler task that would make that feature much more useful. So investing the time to do the former and then not the little bit of extra time for the latter, that's what I meant with the "silly" bit.

If you think that's disrepectful, sorry; it's just what I think.
Oh I see, I thought you meant that the fact of dumping the demos into the savefile was a stupid idea in the new code given that a lot of work had been put into what you already said. From which I deducted you considered it nonsense to store the demos.

While I now see your point was that it would have been stupid not to store it, given how easy it would have been to implement that feature compared to the other one. Thats much better :P If its your point then I totally agree man. But Im afraid I keep my point though, I don't think they're stored in the computer, for both reasons: the savefile not containing the runs and no button being available. Also thanks for the proof zaps, now we are triple-sure they are not stored.

I know, I don't like this neither, I love to have my runs stored.
You know what would be fun? That we now discovered they are stored indeed.

Yeah all non-tile related tricks are here, just like we saw on the beta version. So only cj's, ck's corner shoves , etc, are supressed. All tricks related to bb's, thwumps, etc, are here. I believe that due to the new mechanics, N doens't get into the tiles as it used to, making the cjs ibasically impossible.

hey everyone,
Yeah, we're sorry about all of the awkwardness.

In hindsight we didn't take into consideration how easy any of this would be to integrate with user-made tools... this was maybe a fairly big oversight.

About replays: your best score for any level should be saved on the database.

At this point we have very little time to work on anything because N++ is a couple months behind schedule and there is a very tight deadline looming soon. Once that's done I think we're going to revisit v2.0 and think about how we can make it more open and easy/fun to do stuff with from a user's perspective.

thanks,
Raigan

Apologies if anything here is incorrect since i've only had a cursory look at the game, but a few thoughts:

1. On my computer there seems to be something up with the physics, running speed is oddly sluggish, while in the air feels normal-ish.

2. [EDIT] This point was just totally wrong, sorry! [/EDIT]

3. I'm not totally sure I understand it properly, but based on a quick play; does the in-built map submission have no browser based interaction? If not it's a huge step backward from the system we had before using NUMA since, among other things, there is no delete/delist capability and no way of posting comments. NUMA is/was a huge part of the community and losing that would be a real blow.

It'd be a happy day if you had lost all motivation to play, ska, your pompous self-aggrandizement knows no bounds.

Hey thanks for reading our feedback raigan, for me the worst thing is the tied scores issue. I don't know what the hell is wrong with my name, but I will always be put on last place on any tie that takes places, completely disregarding in which place I actually did it. pretty frustrating >:(

lol

Also, the overall game, not just the levels, is getting awesomer the more I mess around, although I am also noticing tons and tons of more glitches, unless it's something to do with my computer/input/graphics/etc.

Oh right... none of your levels got in... ;)

I'm baffled how saying I've currently lost motivation to play a game is in any way self-aggrandizing or pompous, but I guess it takes one to know one... but I digress: when the game works, it flows like silk. It's just odd that earlier iterations of the beta played fine on this laptop. I wasn't criticizing the game's engine itself...

It honestly baffles me how you manage to miss the point so completely and so regularly. I'll whittle that quote down a bit for you so your selective myopia can't dodge what I was getting at.
ska wrote:I was one of the biggest proponents of the first beta.
That's such an outstanding piece of vainglorious rubbish. Boo-hoo, the game isn't exactly how you'd like, despite all of the effort you put in to it.

Couple that with the constant toadying, and mentioning to everyone how integral you were in getting their maps in the game – as if sending a list of maps to m&r was some special and unique act of charity. THAT'S pompous self-aggrandizement.

Also, since you've tried the old "mintnut's just angry because his maps didn't get in *sarcastic wink*" jibe: I never suggested any of my maps to m&r, not in the list I originally sent to you, not in the list I sent directly to them. I didn't mind not having maps in the pack, and if none of my maps getting in could've meant that any of the following list of authors could've been included I'd've been bloody delighted, because every single one of them is ten-times the mapper I am:

Spudzalot, toasters, Shortshift, Losttortuga, frogs, Brttrx, GEAH, Skyray, Radium, miststalker06, IWBTNINJA, Mekkah, wulfgang, yungerkid, _destiny^-, sept, Skypanda, T3chno, Myrrhman, Ultcult, Apse

P.S. sorry about the dirty laundry flag.

Touché.
I was being sarcastic you clueless bastard.

On a more productive note, it seems a variant of the "NReality fix" also applies to 2.0

Those experiencing lag on Windows should try the following fix:

1) right click the Nv2 icon
2) Open the compatibility tab
3) Check Disable visual themes, Disable desktop composition and Disable display scaling on high DPI settings.
4) click apply.

This eliminated practically all lag on my system.

Raigan, perhaps you should embed this tip into the game itself somewhere that is easy to find until a more orthodox solution is found. (perhaps on the scrolling text?)

Edit: Levels like 80-4 still lag even with these changes.. :/

Oh Right! So that's why you're still posting despite having "lost all motivation to play". Or was that an attention seeking lie? ... ;)

Sarcastic winks ARE fun! ... ;)

Are you brain-damaged, or did you just completely ignore what I wrote?

I -fixed- the application settings so now it is actually playable. (for the most part, at least).

If you can't keep the peace, please kindly climb back into your self-proclaimed pile of dirty laundry that you dirtied in the first place.

Oh sorry, I thought the only part that was in reply to me was the bit about me being a "clueless bastard" vis-à-vis your masterful use of sarcasm. I'm not sure what your "fix" has to do with our little tiff, but I'll ponder it a bit more and see if I can't work it out.

You seem to have misinterpreted (as usual) the dirty laundry comment. This is the 'dirty laundry', if you want me to keep the peace then you very much don't want me to climb back into it.

Anyway, I'll do as you ask and stop posting here, but on my way out I'll just leave a couple of graphs that sum up my grievances:

1) For each of the authors with 3 or more maps in 2.0; the ratio between how many maps they had accepted and how many featured maps they have on NUMA:

Image

2) The number of featured maps you, and a selection of authors who don't have a single map in 2.0, have on NUMA

Image

By all means continue trying to insult my mental capacity instead of addressing my criticisms.

We actually suggested/shortlisted about 95% of those authors. What people see as "feature-worthy" doesn't necessarily correlate with a the artistic vision that Mare and Raigan have which I also considered after the first wave of submissions..

Also, The lag fix has everything to do with this, since you started your tirade based on the fact that I was unable to play the game properly as most people could. Once I found a reasonable, temporary work-around, the former problem was rendered moot; null and void, so I could recommence playing the game!

Furthermore, I completely understood that this was the dirty laundry you were referring to, why else would I bring it up and explain that it was you that started this "tiff"?

As for my higher ratio of accepted maps into 2.0, I will say I feel blessed that Mare and Raigan accepted them - whether it is because they genuinely enjoyed them or because they appreciate the work I put into making a suitable compilation or a combination of both. Ultimately, it was not my final decision, so having a go at me for it is... well.. pointless. Thanks for the nice graphs though...

In short, fuck you ska. M&R shouldn't be making Nv2 for themselves, they should be making it for the community. Maybe they tried a little, but they fell short and they had plenty of time to fix what they erred. I won't put all the blame on you, but stop defending yourself because you should have done better.

Is there a level in this game called "Who's Sick of Zap Drones"?

There's more zap drones in one episode of this game than there are in a whole column in N 1.4.

Also, is Zenith edited from the N 1.4? It isn't 1% as hard as I remembered. I beat it before the cartoon Pigs in a Polka ended. In the original it took me approximately 8 hours.

Sorry, I'm genuinely confused... What should have I done better exactly? I actually agree that the release seems a bit rushed, but I don't see what that has got to me... As for the "broken" map, I didn't choose it because I knew it wouldn't work...
