In N v1.4 or V2.

Pressing the correct key but there's no response.

Any idea what could be causing this?

Either there's something under the key which is stuck, or N broke, which I doubt. Try to open the on-screen keyboard and N and press ` on the on-screen keyboard to see if that will open debug.

if you're talking about the editor in n v2 then as far as i know there's no key to press to enter the game editor. you click levels -> editor -> new

if you're talking about playtesting levels in v2 then sadly that's a well-known unfortunate glitch

at least i think that's what debug mode means

For what I now, the key can change depending on the nationality of your keyboard. I never used the "~" key because I don't have it, I rather have to use the "º" key. That's for 1.4. For 2.0 there's no key combination required, you just do what zaps said ("Levels -> editor -> new"), and for palytesting, you need an older version of v2.0 or it will crash. That version is stickied on the v2.0 main forums.
