Guys, with regards to recreating some of the pinned topics (e.g. The Map Rating thread, Message Board Game threads), don't bother. The old threads will be restored when they are ported over from Forumer.

Will everything be copied over? I like the idea of starting from scratch, I always felt a little overwhelmed by the old forums.

Well, quite of lot of the stuff on the forums is stuff that we don't want to lose. For example, the level packs forum. that would be devastating if we lost it.

I was wondering - what will happen to all the old B&T topics?

I think they will be destroyed with the destruction of B&T.

Obviously, we can pick and choose which categories of the forum will be restored and which won't.
I don't think we'll be pulling in anything from BnT, even though it's already archived with the rest.
We may even just pick an arbitrary date and restore everything posted after it.

Stop moaning, all the topics will be active, if you remember, the new forum has only just opened, everything will come back eventually

Yes but the way you did it sounded sarcastic.

Gentlemen, chillax. We have only just begun. Seriously, this forum has been open to posting for only about twelve hours. Just sit back, and let everything happen as it is going to happen. We are in the hands of Dave, Kablizzy, LV, and Tsukatu. If they aren't four guys we can trust, I don't know who is. They are going to make wise decisions that reflect the needs of our community, and in the end, we'll have a lot less to wade through to find good, relevant topics.

Honestly, I was sort of hoping nothing would get copied over. But, it is certain that not -everything- will be transferred. The only thing I think no one can stand to lose is ermacrules' webcomic, so, as long as that is here, I think all will be well.

I dont want ANYTHING copied over, it gives everybody a chance to make something new without having to think "has somebaody made this already?"

Well, until later on of course

The most likely situation is that only the very large or important, stickied, and/or memorable threads will be copied over. Some of which being some of the helpful lists scattered around the various sections, usaswim's guide to everything there is to know about N, maaaybe my grammar thread (I feel as if that needs revising, however), among others. Things like the birthday thread could simply be remade, though.

This is all pure speculation on my part and is not indicative of what actions the administration will be taking.

There are many threads that do need to be copied over just for the sake of keeping them active without having to pick up from where they left off. These would include any currently running contests, such as the SOTW or various Contests and Tournaments threads.

I think a lot of the Serious Discussion threads should be pulled over into Debate, since this community seems to like debating over topics such as inductive reasoning, determinism, what is morally right and wrong, etc.

I don't want to start over completely from scratch. There are some things that are relevant right now that we should move over so that we don't have to restart conversations. NUMA Discussion threads for example.

I'm also hoping many of the Image threads get moved over here, as I think a lot of people would enjoy having their old image threads to continue off of instead of starting over.

In the end, I don't want to start over from scratch but I don't want the bulk of old threads that are long dead to be moved
here.

And how am I gonna edit my posts? How could this site know if I am the one that I say I was on the old forum? It is catching our computers ID (I used this term just because I don't know the real expression)? If so, what if I am using browser that is used for anonymous connection? Do we have to be named as we were before, because I've changed my nick (just for information, I was VanGogh)? I know, a lot of questions...

Tsukatu is mining all of the threads from the old forum, and doing a splendid job. At the very least, we'll have a copy of those threads to put into an archive on TheRealN.com. Forumer.com was going to charge $75 to do the same thing.

I don't know about the necessity of implementing those threads within the new forums. An archive would work just as well.

I thought forumer was a completely free service and did not have any strings attached. Now I see it does.

Just a thought: One of the admins should remake the Birthday Thread today because it's Kablizzy's birthday today. Kinda starting off on the right foot, don't ya think?

Hosting a forum with forumer was free. It's just that the archiving and moving that is being done at the moment is more of an extra service, especially since we are grabbing everything there and moving it to a non-forumer forum. But as Dave said, 'suki is doing a stellar job of moving it over himself. ^_^

Ideally, it would be best for you to remain with the same name that you had at Forumer, but it doesn't really matter that much.

And yes, if someone complained about their name being taken away, we could examine IPs to check.

In my view, only relevant topics, such as FAQs, tutorials, running contests, certain debate topics, and pinned topics should be moved over.

Everything else can be recreated without too much interruption.
