But they aren't clever at all! These are for people who didn't realize that Itchy and Scratchy were satirical.

I remember Happy Tree Friends, from 2003, before it was cool.

Itchy and Scratchy are brilliant.
Anyway, Tanner, I believe you are referring to the Simpsons' writers, since they wanted to give them a full spinoff.
Although, I will say this: why are I&S satire and this is not?

That is a legit question. If we aren't expressly told by the creators that what we're seeing is satire, we have to interpret from the oeuvre itself. I feel that The Simpsons does provide a context through which we can interpret I&S as satire whereas HTF doesn't.=w= wrote:Although, I will say this: why are I&S satire and this is not?
Thankfully, that's sort of moot point since, in the DVD commentary for Season 9's "Girly Edition" and Season 2's "Itchy & Scratchy & Marge", Matt Groening and Mike Reiss, respectively, state that I&S cartoons are used to satirize issues. The only references I can find to HTF being satire are from third parties.

That is the disk I am missing from Season 9, and thus cannot confirm Tanner's claim.hairscapades wrote:That is a legit question. I had my scathing "found this in middle school" comment ready, but, as usual, I am far too late.
As far as I&S goes, there are several obvious in-episode plots about TV violence just to make sure we all understand Groening's point in creating it. Whereas HTF is creepy and didn't even make me laugh when I was 13.

I don't mind newcomers; I just think it's dumb when they expect to be known for some reason.Heartattack wrote:I love when Tsukatu notices random faceless people. I remember in particular an episode in which one of the "friends" got his head stuck in a snack machine and screamed as the little corkscrew snack-pusher penetrated his eye. Ha.
