I am a runner. I have a pair of FiveFingers, and run in them when I can (one of my toenails is about to fall off atm, so I'm trying to reduce the stress on it until it becomes normal again). They feel very good to run in. Whenever I run in them, my form instantly becomes better. And you can feel everything beneath your feet. They feel very light. In other words, they are great for running. I love them. They look pretty good, in my opinion, too. Not for everyday normal walking, because then you'd look like an ass, but while running. I'd definitely recommend FiveFingers if you're going to use them for training. If you're just wearing them for walking, though, that's ok I guess. It seems kind of pointless to buy a shoe like this for the given reason that you want to improve your form and have a freer feeling in general, instead of actually going out and exercising. These shoes are best to train in. And if you have them, you don't just get them to walk in.

Edit: Oh, and I don't know what Scythe is talking about. Mine still smell strongly like fresh rubber after dozens of miles, and a fair bit of dirt, so I would assume that they are going to be even less stinky than any of my other shoes (which pretty much don't smell at all). And it isn't just my feet, either.

KSO Trek is only $85 over here by the way. I don't know if that's a sale, or if you already got yours, or what. But there they are.

I'm at the point where my doubt has successfully held me back from making the purchase (and it turns out a ~$100 purchase would hurt me unduly at the moment... but maybe next fortnight).

If I continue running as a long-term thing then I might consider getting some. My Ariakes will do me more than fine for now though. Besides, they don't ship to the UK as of yet, so i'm not sure if i could get some even if i wanted to.

Oh, general update:
After seeing a number of independent end-user reviews of these things, I'm pretty much thinking it's going to be the KSO Trek's or nothing. They're far more obvious than the promotional photos made it seem, but it's still looking like the Trek's are passable. I wear baggy jeans everywhere anyway, and my height ought to draw attention away from my feet. I'm just sick of the inflexibility of my normal shoes.
Unless the odor issue can't be avoided, I'm still planning on procuring the KSO Trek's.

My hesitation with the KSO treks is that there is added rubber in the sole. The whole point of these shoes is to create the barefoot experience, and the more you add to the bottom of the shoe, the closer your getting back to normal shoes.

Are you sure they don't ship to the UK? When you go on their site, you can select what country you're ordering from. They even have a Europe exclusive line. It surprises me if they really won't ship there.

I think I was told by someone that researchers found out running barefoot made you faster then running in shoes, this looks pretty close.

I would love a pair of these for running in, they look amazingly comfortable for that. In fact, I might just invest in a pair when I can afford it.

Sorry for the thread revival, but I just got these and I thought I'd share what I think.

Buy. These. Shoes.

Using the table on their website, my foot was considered a size 36 converted to their scale. 36 was too small for mens, so I bought a size 36 KSO from the woman's line (apparently this is quite a common solution). Upon receiving them in the mail and trying them on, they were way too small. Both the width and the length of the shoe were short. I shipped the shoes back for a refund and decided I'd try shoes on in the store. Using a store's measuring device, I measured at a 38. Tried on a 38 KSO mens, too small. I finally arrived at a 40 that was a tiny bit loose which is what I was looking for (I plan to wear the socks which would compensate for the extra space). After buying these and a pair of toe socks and I walked out of the store ready to try them out.

At first it was really weird and my toes felt uncomfortable. After walking for 30 minutes the pads of my feet were sore and I almost considered taking them back. Fortunately, I stayed through the growing pains and now they feel amazing. They feel like you're wearing two pairs of socks, no laces to deal with or anything. When walking on surfaces you feel them, but they don't hurt you. You can walk on gravel without pain, although running on it starts to hurt. I got black so they blend in pretty well so not many people have asked me about them. I wear these around doing every day things as opposed to flip flops or some other casual footwear. They're that comfortable.

If you have $80 to spend, try these out.

The shoes aren't bad without the socks, but god, are they comfortable with them. Also, when I'm wearing shoes, my feet sweat pretty usually. I was afraid of these smelling bad like scythe had said they would. So far no smell with the socks (coming on a month now).

And don't worry about them not being durable enough. I thought these would wear out real quick because it seems like you're wearing a rubber sole strapped to your feet and that's it. These are tough- I've had them in rivers, ran in them, and some other things. The only thing I can see wearing out is the Velcro strap. Once the Velcro expires and gets fuzzy and worthless, I dunno what I'll do.

I have these shoes. They're a special kind of awesome. Suki, if you're really worried about foot odor, they have socks available on the Vibram web site available. They're ridiculously expensive ($12 a pair,) but you could powder those socks and they do absorb an surprising amount of sweat for how thin they are. Whats more, they don't restrict movement or the feeling of freedom at all :D

Edit: I just read the rest of the tread. Way to go buying a pair. I still recommend buying the socks as soon as they come back in stock, though.
