Hey, cool!
Now, to be fair to Apple, the record companies didn't give them DRM-free music, whilst giving Amazon DRM-free music, because they wanted to give other online music stores free market share. Perhaps a noble goal, but not a noble way of going about it.
Conclusion: Record companies are dicks.
Also, Apple charges 30 cents / song to remove DRM on your current library.

That's pretty cool.
The 30 cent costs for upgrading is a bit overkill for a profit.

Yeah, also you have to pay more per song to get it DRM free in the first place.

I don't mind the DRM, all I'll be using is iPods anyway. I <3 my 1st Gen 8Gb Touch :)

I really like this, though that 30 cents thing sucks.

I still think mp3 is better than AAC, but whatever.

30 cents a song is outrageous. And any news on full album prices? If that gets pumped up, which I think it most likely will, I'm just going to go out and buy the *tangible* album.

With this move, most of the pricing decisions are no longer on Apple, the record labels used DRM as a bargaining chip (they gave Amazon DRM free music months ago) to get Apple to change its pricing model, which Apple refused to do for probably about a year now. Apparently, Apple finally got tired of arguing and gave in to the label's demands, so you now have DRM free music, but its probably going to cost more (labels now get to pick .69, .99, or 1.29 for a song)

What? AAC beats mp3 across the board on listening tests. The only better codec is OGG, but Apple won't use that because they're scared of Linux taking their marketshare.
