http://www.althafahmed.com/strange-fact ... microsoft/
I just tried the "Bush hid the facts" one on one of the university computers running XP, and it got turned to jibberish.
Tried the CON one next and it refused to rename the folder.
Tried the =rand (200, 99) in Word 2k7 and it got turned to a three-page essay on how to use Microsoft Word.
I never before believed the tinfoil hattery about a backdoor in Windows, but now, I'm not so sure...

Wow, that's pretty spooky! o_o
I tried Bush hid the facts, it came up with some boxes.
And the random word thing just gives me The Quick Brown Fox Jumps Over The Lazy Dog repeated for 225 pages.

1.)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/74496/en-us CON is a reserved keyword in Windows, dating back to the days of DOS. Along with names like COM1 and drive letters (A:, B:, C:), CON would have been used by the OS to communicate with connected devices.
2.) I couldn't find an article on this right away, but I know notepad does that with any file containing a four letter word, then two three letter words, then a five letter word. "1111 222 333 44444", "AAAA BBB CCC DDDDD", etc. It has to do with notepad reading the file, guessing that it's Unicode, and opening it as if it were.
3.)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/212251 =rand() is a feature of MS Word that generates sample text. In Word 2007, the sample text is more coherent than the previous versions which repeated "The quick brown fox..." Also check out =lorem() to generate good old lorem ipsum.

Okay, whoever made that page was clearly trying to scare me. Haha.
Also, lorem ipsum? Since when did they have a sense of humor?

Who says they have a sense of humour? It's not that ridiculous a function.

Yeah, lorem ipsum often used for testing formatting. templates and typesetting. Including it is entirely sensible and practical.

I got Chinese characters instead. I guess it must depend on the language your Unicode setting is.
And the =rand(200,99) thing has been around for a long time.

Do you have Vista? My Vista is automatically compatible with Japanese and Chinese characters, but XP is not, which is what I'm using now.
