Root beer floats: how to consume

Me and my girlfriend have been disagreeing on this for quite a while. She insists that you're supposed to let the ice cream melt in with the root beer and drink it all together, and the spoon is there to facilitate that. I say that they give you a spoon so that you can eat the ice cream as you drink the root beer, instead of waiting for it to mix all together.

How do you consume a root beer float, and what do you think is the best way to do so?

A root beer float contains three unique foodparts. The ice cream at the top, mostly unaffected by the root beer below. The root beer at the bottom, blissfully unaware of its creamy invader. And the mixture around the surface of the root beer where ice cream and soda have become one, a texture thick enough to scoop up with your spoon yet viscous enough to drink through the straw. It's not root beer with ice cream on the side, and it's not a milkshake. It's served the way it is for a deliciously deliberate reason.

well hold on now, a root beer float is meant to have 3-4 big scoops of vanilla ice cream in a tall glass with root beer poured in to fill in all the extra space. this gives the ice cream a unique, almost crunchy texture (you'd have to try it yourself). I'm with golf kid. stirring fuses the two tastes together completely, and while they're supposed to be eaten together, they should have their own significant shapes and textures that compliment each-other. Obviously.

I take a spoonful of root beer, and spread it on the ice cream, then eat up the parts that get covered. Repeat till ice cream is almost done. Then stir it in. So looks like I'm in between.

I eat the ice cream and drink whatever root beer ends up in my spoon.

The x = 0.999..., 10x = 9.999, 9x = 9.0 proof is the one I trust the most, myself.
There's a lot of quirky stuff like this in math, but it doesn't make it inconsistent.

I mostly agree with suki, however

I normally let it melt just a little, then eat quite a bit of the ice cream, leaving a few gumball sized chunks that you randomly eat when you drink the root beer, making it, 103% delicious

I prefer iced coffee floats, but I always use the spoon to eat the ice cream with. Birds-of-a-feather.

I'm siding with golfkid. I don't stir them together. You really should have made a poll.

I usually pour the rootbeer over some scoops of icecream, drink the rootbeer after a /small/ bit of stirring, then eat the remaining, mushy, delicious icecream left at the bottom.
I generally try to keep the icecream in tact, though, instead of mixing in to the root beer.

I eat them entirely separately. Entirely. I like root beer. And ice cream is ok.

I think the root beer makes the ice cream taste better, but the ice cream makes the root beer worse. I would eat the ice cream with the spoon.
