Tangentially, I'm amazed at how American an Australian I am. I asked a lady for her John Hancock the other day, and she had not the faintest clue of what I meant. I then attempted to confirm with my co-workers that it was a legitimate expression, but sadly, none of them had heard the term either. So I looked like a fool. But y'all know I ain't.
