In this current economic climate, it's not easy to get a job. I am currently working as a maths tutor when I can. It pays well (£14 per hour) and is very stimulating, but it's not easy to get work. I also am doing an intership at a company in the city. What about you guys?

I've spent the last few years flitting between agency work and retail. Mostly due to a lack of direction, but also avoidance of responsibility. My friend and I are now quite tired of working for others, and we'll be attempting to set up our own business. I'll tell more about it once we have something to show.
Working for the MAN gets you down... man.

I also work at a tutoring center, mostly because the owner is friends with my parents. It actually doesn't pay very well, but the work is simple and my boss is pretty easygoing. I'm probably going to continue to work there for the rest of the summer, but once I start college I'll probably have to find something that pays more.

i worked at a Vet Hospital as a kennel technician for boarding dogs & cats... i had little to no work most days, the only downside was that the other people working there really irritated me. I haven't done that for a while and have not found a new job yet...

I am currently employed with the Loblaw corporation, which has several different operating banners. I am working specifically at a Loblaw Great Food location. I work in the general merchandise department where I usually work skids that come in, but since I don't work with food, I am also responsible for assembling displays, rearranging products, patio furniture, etc. on the floor, helping customers, and making labels/signs. It sounds like generic stock boy work, but it's a great company to work for and this could lead to full time employment because they hire internally.
Minimum wage recently went up to 9.50/hour and I benefited from that, so things can only get better from here. I had to do an extra semester of high school, so I'm working as much as I can until I start college in the fall, but I'm still only getting on average about 18 to 28 hours a week. My manager is laid back and doesn't really get angry, my co-workers are fun to talk with, and there's nice girls working at Joe Fresh and Cosmetics. ;)

I believe the original founder's name was Bob Loblaw, and the current board of directors are here, but it looks like the executive chairman is not Bob.Tsukatu wrote:I will be very angry if the owner's name is not Bob Loblaw.Twistkill wrote:I am currently employed with the Loblaw corporation

I am currently unemployed. I am desperate for a job at the moment but finding work is harder than ever. I thought that my degree would help me get a job, but it's proving just as hard to get a job related to my degree as it is to get a job down the local shops. It's quite frustrating.

I'm going in to business myself. Me and jtbandes are preparing to launch a web service called Scholarous (http://scholaro.us). Project Secret (http://projectsecret.org) I've been running for a while, but I haven't been marketing. Me and a friend are also going to be going in to business building custom computers on a large scale this summer.

I've been employed for a year now at the movies. I love working there and my fellow employees are great.
Plus, I get to see movies for free. :)

Interestingly enough, the Loblaws corporation was founded by a man named Theodore Pringle Loblaw.
I am currently a McEmployee, full time until school starts. It is extremely fun, I'd have to say. I mostly work busy lunches, and time tends to fly by.
Just before this I worked at a telemarketing agency for a few days before being fired for deviating from the script.

my girlfriend worked at a telemarketing agency for about a week before being fired for this exact reason. She's got tons of horror stories about the workers and bosses and such. Shit's ridiculous.SlappyMcGee wrote: Just before this I worked at a telemarketing agency for a few days before being fired for deviating from the script.

However, I'm currently unemployed. Hopefully I'll find a job soon, but there aren't many jobs in my major (physics) at my level (undergrad) that I'm aware of. I should be getting into research soon, though, which can always lead somewhere.

Absolutely. It's also refreshing to get a say in the sorts of decisions that will affect the lives of entire populations. Why just the other day we made some solid progress toward building our own dependency parser, and we rushed excitedly to an urgent meeting about how we can use this to keep the black people from coming to power. It was phenomenal.scythe33 wrote:I must agree. Working for The Man is quite satisfying, and it pays well.Tsukatu wrote:I work for The Man.

I have worked at KFC for the last year and nine months. Except for the two and a half months I was in Melbourne where I worked at a pub. Pub work is much better, but harder to find here. KFC really gets a brother down.
But at least I don't have to do too much work because of my reputation, which precedes me.

I've been working at my local Officeworks since last November. Giving customers advice about which pen or binder to buy isn't my ideal cup of tea, but it gets me through. The hours feel awfully long there at times.
Oh, and I also work as a bad table tennis coach.

I probably have a research position!
Probably unpaid, but awesome, because I can start getting paid later. The thing is, I got it on the basis of having taken two classes with the group leader and acing both. In reality, I know jack-all about nanolithography, so I need to go study things.
