Since we've got a lot of yung'uns here, I don't suspect that this will get all that much activity, but it's been on my mind because I've been out shooting recently (my 21st birthday was three days ago, and we all know guns and alcohol mix splendidly).

Even though they're still plenty lethal to an unarmored target, I just do not take .22's seriously. I'm incapable of it. I laugh when I see people using something chambered for .22's, and I compare the damage they do to bee stings and mosquito bites. I respect 9mm but don't really ever use it.
Really, I just don't like using anything smaller than a .40. .45 is also quite decent in my mind, as is .357, but .44 is really slightly beyond the horizon of impractical.
So my answer here is actually .40 S&W and .357 mag.

Nonetheless, this is me with a .44 magnum versus a paralyzed zombie:
Image
That's 42 rounds aimed at the forehead from 7 meters away (39 hits, 3 misses), and then another 8 aimed at the throat from 15 meters away (5 close, 1 off-target, 2 misses).

.45 Colt. Nostalgic reasons. Plan to fire one as soon as disposable income permits.

This is an awesome topic, Tsukatu.

My Step-Father used to have a shotgun that shot .22LR's. Ridiculous? :P

.44, purely because I love the scoped magnum in Fallout 3 (which is entirely ridiculous I realize)

From the man who gloriously created such beauts as this and this.

EDIT: I voted for .357 Magnum.

Er, wow, apparently adding .45 Colt resets the polls entirely. My bad.

Haha, sorry to cause problems.

I wish I could use both of my votes for the same choice. That'd be a good poll feature.

I like this guy.

He has clear, rational ideas and explains them in full detail with lots of supporting evidence that doesn't appear to be outlying cases.

i'm only 16 currently, and i've lived a totally sheltered life in a Christian home all my life. i wasn't allowed to handle water guns until i was around 10; they were too close to real guns (for my parents). i would love to get my hands on a gun, but i'm not allowed to. maybe someday. i'd like to see and fire a S&W 500 series.

If someone asks "Which is best, PS3, XBox or Wii?" it is not really a good idea to barge in and yell that videogames are an implement of Satan and all who partake will surely become mass murderers and rot in hell. Nobody cares about that. They just want to have a discussion about the relative merits of each option.

In other words, please take gun-control related ramblings to a separate thread so's not to clutter up this one. This has been a public service announcement from your friendly staff. Moderators - building a better tomorrow! (TM)
