This may seem ridiculous, but where did this word come from? I've been hearing it more and more lately, is it an actual word or just slang for "cannot"? Is it an Australian or British thing? I've never heard anyone from America say it, or have I?! I'm freakin' out here people, somebody help me!

I think it's a mock Scottish accent (or, real if it's spoken by a Scot).
Edit @ Edit2: I'm too fast for any message.

				Scottish, I think.
Edit: Grargh maestro.
Edit2: Shouldn't that have given me the "someone else has posted" message?

What the hell. Why would you ever post this on our forums? Jesus Christ.
Also, it is Scottish.
Anyway, before you go posting this bullshit on -our- forums, do a Google search. If you had typed in "Cannae Cannot" on Google, you would've gotten
this as your first result. Which clearly says what it is (as sad as it is, urbandictionary is not so unhelpful with definitions of things like these).
Someone please lock this. Jesus.

Frickin' seriously. I just suspended his ass for a year. We don't need that kind of insolence 'round these parts.

It just means "cannot". It's part of some accent or another.

This may be the most pointless topic ever created, and that is saying something.

Crivens! Ye dinnae need tae kip postin' awt that summun's alreidy seid, ye daft scunners.
Also, posts which say "this thread is pointless" are complete spam. They serve no purpose whatsoever, whereas this thread is at least expanding someone's knowledge of psuedo-Scottish dialect.

I feel like hijacking this thread to link to the
Scots Wikipedia. It's a real language* but to a regular English speaker like myself it looks hilarious.
* As the 'Spellin an grammar' page says, "Scots isna juist English written wi orra wirds an spellins. It haes its ain grammar an aw. If aw ye dae is tak an English text an chynge the spellins an swap a puckle wirds it'll juist be Scotched English an no Scots".
