I was wondering what July 4th meant to people. Are there interesting events that go on today? Or perhaps you just see it as a significant event.

I'm mainly doing this because as some of you may know, I'm British, and therefore don't celebrate this day (damn revolutionists...). So I wanted to see what it's like for those that do.

Yeah... A day of freedom. Or genocide if you want to be pedantic, but meh.

Earplugs. Good ones.
Locking up the cats in the house so they can't run away and get eaten...
Making sure to close up the garage so we don't get the neighbors' dogs hiding in it. That happens too much.
Not being able to get to sleep because the idiots across the street are setting off the loudest firecrackers they can until four in the morning, not to mention the gunshots.

Yeah, I'm not the biggest fan o' this holiday.

This year we're going to hike up to the top of Mount Lassen, though. We've done that once before, and it's a lot of fun. You're far enough away that you don't have to worry about split eardrums, and you can see the fireworks form cities all around. Its really cool.

The country is more American every Gorram day. I like how 'intellectuals' think that the country is being stolen by some minority that somehow manages to outvote them most of the time.
